Greetings!
As we approach Memorial Day, we would like to take a moment to pay tribute to all those who have fought, and those who have laid down their lives, in defense of our freedom.
We salute the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen who have paid the ultimate price for us to live in the greatest and freest country on the face of the earth.

Let us never forget these American Heroes and what they have done for this country.
We must ensure that the sacrifices of our service members and their families are honored and remembered. They fought for us. Our duty is to fight to make sure they are never forgotten. As Americans, that must be our charge and our sacred mission not just on Memorial Day, but every day.
We are so grateful for you and that you are a part of the Tee it up for the Troops family. Thank you for your continued support of our organization, but more importantly the men and women who serve this great nation, our veterans and their families.
Blessings,
Paul Anderson

MMAF Speaking Engagement
By Patrick Nelson, Event Coordinator
On April 16th, I had the honor to speak at the annual Minnesota Military Appreciation Fund (MMAF) dinner at the DoubleTree in Bloomington, Minnesota. MMAF is a Minnesota non-profit organization that provides grant to Minnesota service men and women who have deployed since 9/11. These cash grants have provided Minnesota Veterans with some extra help when they return; especially with the current veterans facing mounting employment challenges when they transition from the military to the civilian world. The keynote speaker for the evening was former Army General Stanley McChrystal. He previously led all the forces in Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010 and has spent the majority of his career in Special Operations Units. General McChrystal spoke about the great things that MMAF are doing for veterans and also the continued need for support across the nation to our warriors when they return home.

Sonja Faust, mother of former Marine Sergeant Colin Faust spoke and provided insight on how the grant helped her family after learning that Colin had been wounded in Afghanistan. Colin lost one of his legs along with several other wounds. I had the opportunity to meet Colin and Sonja a few years ago while we were both at the VA for an appointment. Colin and I had stayed in touch and he is now in college at Minnesota State University - Mankato and is looking forward to interning with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2013 Training Camp in the Operations Department. It was very humbling for me to speak in front of all those great supporters and tell my personal story of how the grant has helped me. At that time, I had left the Army, started college, and was struggling to find a job. I had applied at over 70 different jobs and did not receive on single call back. This grant helped alleviate some of the stress so I could concentrate on my rehabilitation and academic career. It was an awesome experience to be able to share the stage with General McChrystal and Sonja. There are many great organizations doing amazing things to support our service members, veterans, and their families. I am proud to be part of Tee it up for the Troops and am excited for upcoming events this summer.

Assistance Dogs benefit Wounded Warriors
| Tee it up for the Troops Chairman, Alex Plechash, attended the 2013 PawPADs Assistance Dogs graduation ceremony. Pictured above with Alex is Linda Ball, PawPADs Founder and Executive Director, and graduates, Calvin and Barkley.
We are so grateful to Calvin for his service to our country! While serving in Afghanistan, Calvin suffered numerous physical injuries, including the loss of his leg, as well as, traumatic brain injury.
Because of generous supporters like yourself Tee it up for the Troops has been able to partner with multiple assistance dog organizations. These organizations provide support to individuals who find healing in the human-animal bond, helping them discover a "normal" life after their time of service. |
