Greetings!

Welcome to the October issue of our monthly newsletter.  Friday, September 7th was the 2012 National Day of Golf and we thank each and every one of you that participated in a Tee it up for the Troops event to raise support for veterans and their families!

Our Flagship event was held at Mendakota Country Club in Mendota Heights, MN on Friday, September 7th. This event honored the service of all military personnel across all branches and conflicts that our military has been involved in. There were veterans present who had served in World War II, the Vietnam War, the Korean War, the Persian Gulf War, as well as, the present War on Terrorism.

Besides the veterans, there were also Gold Star Families (families that have lost a loved one in military service), Wounded Warriors (severely wounded or injured soldiers), Tribute to the Troops members (an organization dedicated to honoring our fallen heroes) and many others who all united that day to honor, respect, remember and support the sacrifices of all veterans and their families. It truly was a very humbling event.

In addition to the Flagship event, many other events were held to raise support for veterans and their families. We would like to recognize those events as follows:

Freedom Is Sweet
There's a saying in the military:
"For those who fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know."
Unknown Soldier (Vietnam Era)

We're not sure what the flavor is, but we do believe that
Freedom is Sweet!

"Save Room For Dessert"
During the week of Veteran's Day--November 11th, participating restaurants will donate a percentage of their dessert sales to Freedom is Sweet.  The proceeds will go to programs that will benefit veterans, active duty and their families.  Check freedomissweet.us for more information and to find participating restaurants  in your area.  This is a new initiative in partnership with the National Restaurant Association and is in the pilot stages of the program so if you can't find a restaurant this year, please consider a donation anyway.

Tee it up for the Troops recognized by The Bush Center Military Service Initiative

The Bush Center recognizes the ongoing work of many organizations who contribute to the recovery, rehabilitation and quality of life of American servicemen and women. Tee it up for the Troops was one of six organizations the Center highlighted as being particularly instrumental in the lives of the 2012 Warrior Open competitors and their families.

The Warrior Open is a program of the George W. Bush Institute's Military Service Initiative, which highlights the courage of U.S. military personnel and places an enduring spotlight on the sacrifice troops and their families make for our freedom.

On September 24-25, 2012, twenty-two warriors from around the United States who have been severely injured in the global war on terror competed in the Warrior Open, hosted by The Bush Center. Tee it up for the Troops President, Alex Plechash, was honored to attend this event on our behalf to extend our appreciation to these warriors and their families.

In addition, Tee it up for the Troops alumni Timothy Lang, Michael Stafford, Kenneth Hendrickson, DeWitt Osborne III and Brian Saaristo were competitors in this year's event.

Warrior Open
Corporal Chad Pfeifer, USA (ret.), carded a final round of 73 (+2) that included a hole in one on the par 3 fourth hole. He was +3 for the tournament. "It really does mean a lot to us to have such great support here in America." said CPL Chad Pfeifer, after winning the Warrior Open for a second time.
For more information regarding The Bush Center Military Service Initiative and the Warrior Open, please visit their website.
