October 2014

The Affordable Care Act (also known as ObamaCare), has allowed many people who have not had access to health insurance to obtain it. However, as many people experienced earlier this year, applying for health insurance is not always an easy task. Many people experienced difficulties signing up for health insurance through Cover Oregon and even though they have signed up, they will still have to re-enroll for 2015.

We at IC$ had questions around the ACA and enrolling in health insurance, and we figured you might have questions as well. Here is what you need to know:
  • If you have not yet enrolled in health insurance, the next time you will be able to do so is on November 15th.
  • If you enrolled earlier this year in Cover Oregon, you will have to re-enroll between November 15th and February 15th 2015 to be covered by insurance through 2015.
  • If you qualify for financial assistance you must enroll between November 15 and December 15, 2014.
  • Next month, every Oregonian should visit Healthcare.gov to enroll.
  • Do not visit Cover Oregon's website - they will not be offering plans for 2015.
We have a couple articles this month that give you some facts and tools for preparing to enroll next month and how the ACA may affect you at tax time. We also have a credit tip of the month for October and will provide you with a credit tip each month for building strong credit!

All the best,
