Give Miami Day raises a record $5.2 million in 24 hours
In a landmark moment for Miami, Give Miami Day 2014 raised $5.2 million for 520 local nonprofits. Donors across the U.S. and more than 30 countries made November 20th the most active day of philanthropic giving ever in the Southeast United States. Thanks to Knight Foundation, The Miami Foundation and our Board of Trustees, Marlins Foundation, Health Foundation of South Florida and additional sponsors, all donations between $25 and $10,000 will receive an additional 9% gift from the bonus pool.

"There is much for Miami to be confident about: our vibrant culture, strength in diversity, an expanding, globally focused economy. It's time we added philanthropy to that list." Accelerator Grants program attracts 114 promising projects

Last month, the Foundation's Accelerator Grants program received 114 pre-proposal submissions. The program will award a $10,000 grant for one project related to each of the eight issue areas explored in the 2014 Our Miami Report.  The grants seek to advance changemakers' current work to address the issues and help map those diligently working on civic solutions. Program finalists are now developing full proposals. Click here to see all 114 submissions.

Breakthrough plants one seedling for every Give Miami Day donor

In honor of the 221 gifts they received on Give Miami Day, Breakthrough Miami donated 221 tomato plant seedlings to Health in the Hood, thanks to a matching gift from DiMare Fresh.  On December 6th, community volunteers helped plant the seedlings in Liberty City and Opa-locka community gardens. Breakthrough Miami raised $44,125 on Give Miami Day for their academic enrichment programs that help more than 1,100 under-served youth in Miami-Dade County.
