From roller skate socials in Bayfront Park to a disc golf course in Homestead, Miamians provided great ideas for creating and activating local gathering places. Engaged Youth student awarded Disney Friends for Change grant

Jessica Myrtil, Engaged Youth Class II student, founded CreativeFlo, a social venture for teens with disabilities and mental illnesses. Using art as a medium for teens to express themselves, Jessica held her first workshop at the Little Haiti Cultural Center this month. The unique project earned her a 2014 Disney Friends for Change grant and $500 in additional seed funding to her Ashoka Youth Venture grant. We applaud Jessica's dedication to build a sustainable project addressing Greater Miami's needs. Pictured: Jessica (second row, center) with volunteers and attendees at her first workshop.

Links project to raise $100,000 for teacher classrooms

Continuing its mission of supporting education, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce launched The Links Project. The initiative will support teacher grants through a Fund at The Miami Foundation and provide teachers $300-$1,000 to implement new and innovative programs in the classroom. The project will sell paper links to be held by students and business leaders connecting the Chamber's building and Miami Beach Senior High School at an upcoming event.  The "link" will represent the relationship between businesses and education. Learn more
