Local leaders connect at Miami Fellows reception

This month, the Foundation held a gathering of dynamic leaders committed to building a greater Miami. The evening, hosted at the Arsht Center, was a chance to connect Miami Fellows alumni, current Fellows, their mentors, Miami Leaders, the Engaged Youth Committee and the many civic leaders whose involvement has made our leadership programs possible. "Sound leaders understand they are part of a larger system," said Javier Alberto Soto, president and CEO. "By linking them with Greater Miami's stakeholders, we equip our Fellows to affect real change in this community."

Brownsville gets a new community garden

Health in the Hood, along with their partners, transformed a vacant Brownsville lot into a community garden. Designed to be a neighborhood gathering place, the site, located at NW 27th Avenue and 54th Street, will eventually include a large-scale mural and farmer's market. The group hopes to inspire change in the neighborhood by providing local residents the opportunity to see how similar lots can be rehabilitated.

IRA Charitable Rollover to expire December 31st

Congressional legislation extended the IRA Charitable Rollover for individuals who are 70 and a half years and older. It allows them to transfer up to $100,000 from their IRA to a charity without incurring federal income taxes today or estate taxes in the future.  Though the Rollover expires on December 31st, we have several community investment options for donors with an IRA distribution, including a Designated Fund to benefit a favorite charity and a Field-of-Interest Fund to ensure resources are forever available for causes close to a donor's heart.

Our team is available around the clock to help with all your year-end charitable gift needs. Please do not hesitate to email or call us at 305.371.2711.
