The Miami Foundation announces 2013-14 Miami Leaders

The Foundation awarded $30,500 to our 2013-2014 Miami Leaders. Through the program, we provide grants enabling emerging nonprofit leaders to attend premier executive education programs in our community and around the country. The program develops leadership skills and management competencies in Miamians with a long-term commitment to careers in Greater Miami's nonprofit sector.

Give Miami Day 2013 training
Give Miami Day season launches with nonprofit workshops
Seventy nonprofit representatives attended our first Give Miami Day workshop for participating organizations. Held at the Main Library, attendees received communications tips on mobilizing donors and building excitement through Give Miami Day. We are planning three more workshops, including a webinar on completing givemiamiday.org profiles.  Click here to view the communications training presentation and dates of upcoming workshops.

Workshop helps nonprofit leaders build strong networks 
The Leonard Turkel Nonprofit Network: Networked Nonprofit Workshop Series continues this month.  The next session, "New Partners, New Markets," will help nonprofit leaders build cross-sector partnerships with businesses, new philanthropists, social entrepreneurs and the media to broaden their impact. The session will be held on September 25, 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the University of Miami Newman Alumni Center: 6200 San Amaro Drive, Coral Gables. The registration fee is $25. Philanthropy

Local funders collaborate to address LGBTQ homeless youth in Miami

The Foundation's GLBT Community Projects Fund joined a coalition of South Florida donors and organizations to launch a historic collaboration.  Eight partners committed to The LGBTQ Youth Homelessness Initiative, a collective effort to reduce the number of LGBTQ youth who are homeless in Miami-Dade County.  The partnership launched this month and will receive $100,000 in state funding secured by State Representative David Richardson (D - Miami Beach). 

  

The GLBT Community Projects Fund joined with Aqua Foundation for Women and Our Fund to pledge an additional $100,000 across the next 12 months.
