The Scope of the Fraud Problem: An Overview of Prevalence Measurement
The Center presents a summary of research on measuring consumer financial fraud. Current estimates of fraud prevalence vary widely, making it difficult for law enforcement, researchers, and policymakers to appreciate the true scope of the problem. This report aims to reconcile the variability of fraud prevalence estimates, to explain why it is so difficult to obtain reliable and valid estimates, and to suggest ways to improve fraud prevalence measurement.

A new fellowship, the Roland Longevity Fellowship, funded by Miriam J. Roland, ’51, and offered in partnership with the Stanford Center on Longevity, will be offered for the first time in 2014 for Stanford students who provide service to the elderly and/or conduct research on issues of aging.
