Livable Community Indicators for Sustainable Aging in Place
The Stanford Center on Longevity and the MetLife Mature Market Institute (MMMI) collaborated to develop a practical and easy-to-use indicator system to measure the ability of a community to enable sustainable aging in place. Aging in place has the potential to benefit not only older adults, but also their families, their communities, and their governments.
The project report identifies an initial list of indicators that can be measured using information that is readily available to local governments, providing a low-cost way for cities and towns to begin to examine the needs of their aging population.
The report was developed as a collaboration of the Center, the MetLife Mature Markets Institute, and researchers Amanda Lehning, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, and Annie Harmon, PhD Candidate, University of Michigan School of Public Health.
