Win a BBQ at the ReStore!
Dreaming of sunny summer days with your friends and family and your favorite food on the grill? San Diego already delivers the great weather - now you just need a new BBQ to make the dream complete. Lucky you, the ReStores in Mission Valley and Escondido are giving away TWO state-of-the-art KitchenAid BBQ islands worth $2,500 each! Come to either ReStore location through January 31st to purchase raffle tickets to win.  Tickets are $5 each, or 3 for $10, and can be purchased at the front registers. The drawing will be held at 5pm on the 31st, and all proceeds benefit San Diego Habitat for Humanity and its mission of building homes for ownership by local families in need.  This is a great opportunity to support us while scoring some great deals at the ReStore!  You don't want to miss it!  (See store for details.)

Women Build 2015 is here!
Women Build 2014

Women Build is a unique event that combines a traditional Habitat build experience with some pampering for you and your friends.  Builds will occur throughout the first two weeks of May at our Elm Street build site in Escondido, and are generously sponsored by Lowe's Home Improvement.

Substandard housing is a severe threat to children's health, growth, and potential, and we are determined to provide affordable home ownership opportunities for qualified low income families.  With help of strong women like you, we can make a difference in the lives of San Diego children forever, and have a great time doing it!

To make the Women Build home construction possible, each participant is asked to raise a minimum of $200 in support of their build day.  Your generous donation will help fund Habitat homes throughout San Diego County, and the more money you raise, the more prizes you will receive!  We have partnered with The Original Pink Box to provide pink tools and build accessories for our most outstanding fundraisers.

Find out how you can get involved!  Sponsorships with great benefits are also available!  www.sdhfh.org/WomenBuild

Travel to Nepal on a Habitat Global Village Build

Are you looking for a way to combine your love of service with your love of travel? Consider joining a Habitat for Humanity Global Village build!  Having led recent Habitat build trips to Thailand and Costa Rica, San Diegan Bill McCabe will be assembling and leading a trip to Pokhara, Nepal from October 2-17, 2015 and is recruiting a team now. While visiting one of the most scenic areas of the world at the foot of the Himalayas, meet and share experiences with 12 fellow dedicated volunteers. Break bread together, immerse yourself in a new culture, and make a difference!

No construction experience is required, just a passion for exploring new places and an open heart and mind.  You will have the opportunity to work side by side with a Nepalese homeowner and know that you have helped to change a family's life forever.

San Diego Receives an "F" in Housing Affordability

A recent study by Interest.com found that San Diego has the second least affordable housing market among the 25 largest cities in the US.  With 38% of our residents' median income below the median home price, we received an "F" in housing affordability.  The median price of a home in San Diego County was $440,000 in October, and according to the most recent census, the county's median household income is about $63,000.  Only San Francisco had a worse housing market, and major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Miami also fared poorly.

This report showed us what we already know--that many San Diegans are struggling to find affordable places to live.  Here at Habitat, we are committed to helping our neighbors and providing affordable housing to everyone in need.  The work we do is sorely needed in our community, and we thank you for your continued support.

Spotlight on: Military Volunteers
San Diego Habitat is able to build all year long thanks to the willingness of our military volunteers who not only work hard to serve our country every day, but who also work tirelessly on the jobsite to help build homes for families in need.  Over 50% of Habitat's construction work days are filled with volunteers from various military commands across the county.  We are so incredibly grateful for your service to our country and to Habitat!
