The Jackson Design and Remodeling Team on the Habitat build site.
|
Continuing a tradition of quality service established by President and CEO Todd R. Jackson, Jackson Design & Remodeling makes a priority of giving back to the community.
Jackson Design & Remodeling has become a generous and committed donor to our ReStores and to the affiliate. The company hosts monthly design seminars during which they educate clients about Habitat for Humanity and the ReStores. As such, high end materials that are removed from client's homes during the remodeling process are donated to the ReStore, are kept out of local landfills, and will help build Habitat homes across the County.
As a celebration of 25 years in business, Jackson Deign & Remodeling are intentionally giving back to the community in 25 ways! They collaborated with San Diego Habitat to complete their 23rd event by building with us in Escondido.
Thank you, Jackson Design & Remodeling! We appreciate your partnership!

In Everything, Give Thanks
|
Being grateful is something that we do throughout the year, but as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday we put special emphasis on counting our many blessings. At San Diego Habitat for Humanity we are especially thankful for our sponsors, volunteers, donors and supporters who make our life-changing work possible. We've positively affected the lives of over 200 families, and thanks to your kindness these families are able to have Thanksgiving dinner in their own homes.
Happy Thanksgiving from our families to yours!

Pedro, Patricia, Fabiola, Pedro Jr. and Fatima Mendez
|
"My future goals include providing my family with what they need for better health and education." -Pedro Mendez
The Mendez family has lived in their current apartment for the past three years. It is an extremely small two-bedroom apartment in which Fabiola and her brother, Pedro, share a bedroom. As they grow older, each child is in desperate need of more private space.
Fabiola has rare "brittle bone" disease and is confined to a wheelchair for her safety. The cramped space of the apartment and the tiny bedroom she shares with her brother don't allow her to move about in a safe way and can cause a major injury that would take weeks to recover from.
Despite the need for repairs to their apartment, the community manager remains unresponsive. There is also crime and drug use going on at neighbor's homes. Pedro's expensive tools, required for his job, have been stolen in the past, leaving the Mendez family concerned about the health and safety of their children.
The family yearns to live in a safer, healthier, more secure neighborhood, and is looking forward to purchasing their Habitat home. In addition to Pedro and Patricia's traditional sweat equity hours, the children are proud to contribute by continuing to get good grades!
Welcome to the Habitat Family, Mendezes!

Radio sensation Delana Bennett offers her voice to uplift and

inspire the San Diego community to give back! She has been a familiar voice to San Diegans for over 10 years. You'll find her co-hosting mornings on STAR 94.1 FM and afternoons from 2-4pm.
In addition to playing STAR's hot contemporary music, Delana is a happy ReStore customer who reminds San Diegans of Habitat's efforts to create safe and affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking families. She uses her genuine and inclusive nature on the air to actively promote community participation through donations of time, financial contributions and support of the ReStore.
Delana recently visited our build site on Elm Street in Escondido, where she saw first-hand the power of the Habitat mission. She was so moved, in fact, that she talked about it on the air the following Monday during a segment on the morning show called Monday Motivation that seeks to remind listeners that there is good in the world, and that we can all be a part of it. Listen here! Delana, thanks for joining us to achieve our vision for San Diego - where every man, woman and child has a decent place to live.

One of Our Valued Partners is Impacting Lives!
|
 |

In 2007, John Wallace, owner of JW Floor Covering & Re:Source Floors participated in a mission trip to Mozambique, Africa, to help build a church. He was so inspired by his experiences and the joy of providing service to those in need, he decided he wanted to do even more to give back. Upon his return, JW & Re:Source Floors Outreach for Humanity ("OUTREACH") was established and has been doing good in the community, both in the US and abroad, since 2008.
OUTREACH is a committed and longstanding partner to San Diego Habitat in its efforts to create a world in which all can live in safety and dignity. As a go-to resource, OUTREACH is a primary donor of diverse flooring materials, from carpet remnants to sheet vinyl, to Habitat's ReStores in Mission Valley and Escondido, helping us turn donated building materials into simple and decent Habitat homes.
OUTREACH's mission of "Impacting Lives" is accomplished one community service project at a time through its 100% volunteer force. Volunteers coordinate between 20-30 projects throughout the year and since 2008, more than 21,000 volunteer hours and $650,000 has been donated, benefiting more than 12,000 individuals through a myriad of projects including flooring and building projects like the ones with San Diego Habitat for Humanity.
OUTREACH's partnership with San Diego Habitat for Humanity allows valuable collaboration that can truly realize its mission of 'impacting lives' - and for that, we at Habitat are very grateful! For more information, visit www.outreachimpactinglives.org.
