Did you know that your old vehicle can help build affordable homes?

San Diego Habitat has had the great experience of working with volunteers of all sizes, but seven-year-old Kara may just be one of our youngest donors yet. Kara, upon receiving a bracelet-making kit for her seventh birthday, learned how to make bracelets with the goal of selling them to raise funds for charity. After holding a small fundraiser in her home and selling the bracelets to her community, Kara decided to donate the proceeds to Habitat for Humanity. We admire Kara's inspirational devotion to giving back at such a young age and cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her.

San Diego Habitat for Humanity is offering wounded veterans 4-bedroom homes in Lakeside! Our homes are sold at no profit and Habitat provides a zero-interest mortgage!

SDHFH selects families based on three criteria:

1. Demonstrated need for improved housing

2. Willingness to partner with SDHFH

3. Ability to pay a monthly mortgage

Home Builders Blitz 2014

The Home Builders Blitz is a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and the local building community that ensures families across the nation have the chance to own decent and affordable homes. The homes are built completely during this five day event. Each house is sponsored by builders who use their relationships in the construction industry to secure donations, products and labor - all with the goal to build homes at zero cost to Habitat.

The Home Builders Blitz has produced more than 1,000 affordable homes across the country since 2006. San Diego Habitat for Humanity has built 19 homes during five Blitz events.

In 2014, San Diego Habitat for Humanity and its build partners will construct three homes from the ground up during the Blitz - June 2nd through 6th - in Escondido.

Thank you to our 2014 build partners for making this year's

Home Builders Blitz possible.

We Need Your Help!

The Home Builders Blitz is a high-intensity event in demand of over 1,000 volunteers! We need volunteers in supporting roles for the event.  These roles do not include construction. Volunteers will support the Blitz as guides, runners, food preppers, snack/water station helpers, shuttle drivers, clean up, traffic controllers, and other event activities. Volunteers are needed from June 2nd to June 6th. Groundbreaking Kicks Off Partnership with Sempra Energy
On Saturday March 29, 2014, San Diego Habitat for Humanity broke ground on the new Elm Street Community in Escondido. The groundbreaking ceremony and inaugural build day served as the kickoff to a partnership with Sempra Energy that will help Habitat for Humanity serve more families, provide energy efficiency upgrades to qualifying existing homes, and transform the surrounding neighborhood.
The Elm Street Community in Escondido, consisting of eleven new 1,300 square foot homes, will feature three bedrooms and two bathrooms with electric efficiency upgrades. One of the homes is sponsored by Sempra Energy and will serve a wounded veteran and their family as part of Habitat for Humanity's Building for the Brave program.

Sempra employees will be back in June to help complete the home during Habitat for Humanity's Builders Blitz. Following that effort, 500 Sempra employees will provide critical exterior repairs and energy-saving upgrades to 35 homes in the surrounding community, June 14th and 16-19. Habitat greatly appreciates Sempra Energy for making these exciting build efforts possible.
Habitat Celebrates 10th Anniversary of National Partnership with Union Privilege

Union Privilege joined Habitat on the job site in Lakeside on March 27, 2014, to celebrate 10 years of partnership. Union Privilege has teamed up with over 250 volunteers during its ten-year period working with Habitat for Humanity; it has worked in ten cities across the U.S. and in Puerto Rico, building homes from their foundations, as well as painting and refurbishing existing homes. At least half of the homes Union Privilege has worked on have belonged to union members, furthering both Habitat's mission to provide affordable housing and Union Privilege's own mission to improve the lives of working families.  Thank you, Union Privilige, for ten years of partnership with Habitat, and for your hard work and financial support of the home-building mission in San Diego!
