Our new video shares our mission through the stories of volunteers, families, donors and our executive director. You will be inspired.

While some children (and adults) had a blast painting bird houses and windmills at our Kids' Build... ...others were busy building playhouses. |
The highest bid on the finished playhouse came from the Cortes family, allowing them to say that this year they officially own two Habitat homes.
|
Families, friends, and volunteers were able to place a dot on our timeline showing when they became involved with Habitat for Humanity.
Our Habi-house was at the entrance to the event and showed the different stages of house construction.
Mira Costa College and many others offered their well wishes on the platforms that will go into the framework of our new homes. If anyone had a craving to satiate a cold sweet tooth, Mr. Rad's Ice Cream truck came to the rescue! |
Seeking to put God's love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Family Reunion: Here's To You
|
|
On October 19th, families, supporters, and volunteers joined us at our Elm street build site in Escondido to celebrate San Diego Habitat for Humanity's 25th anniversary with our "Family Reunion." The event proved to be nothing short of a success. Our friends wandered through the Habi-house, made their mark on our Timeline, painted bird houses, built playhouses at the Kids' Build, and enjoyed a BBQ dinner and live music. Presentations acknowledged the many people who have had a touch with Habitat and we celebrated one of our Habitat families who paid off their mortgage with a fiery paper burning. Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate -- onward to another 25 great years!
The Brunsons (left) and the Briscoes were instrumental in SDHFH's early years. Georgia and Dennis Briscoe founded our affiliate and invited President and Rosalynn Carter to San Diego in 1990 for a week-long blitz build.
Our volunteers can't stay away from the tools! Here they are ready to make garden boxes.

October 19, 2013 is
Habitat for Humanity Day
|
County Supervisor Dave Roberts announced October 19 as Habitat for Humanity Day throughout San Diego County. "We wanted to recognize the great work that so many people have been doing," said Roberts. "To make sure you know how committed the County of San Diego is, hopefully for the next 25-plus years you will continue this so that everyone can have a home of their own."

Fair Winds and Following Seas to Mike Gehl |
|
San Diego Habitat for Humanity is proud to commend construction superintendent Mike Gehl upon his retirement after 18 years of dedication! What started as volunteerism at build sites turned into a full-fledged and fruitful career journey. Mike's work ethic and demeanor have been widely recognized and admired by fellow volunteers and staff, as well as the partner families he has helped along the way. "Mike is a very kindhearted, soft spoken, funny and intelligent gentleman who has been a tremendous asset to San Diego Habitat. His presence will be greatly missed," said administration assistant Adrienne Greene.
Before his life with Habitat, Mike earned a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State, followed by service in the Navy during the Vietnam War. While spending 20 years working with operating forces on ships, and handling various engineering duties, he gradually started a career with San Diego Habitat, six years before his Naval retirement. "When I started with Habitat, it was because construction was my hobby. I just love construction, and every time I went to a build site, I got to do something different," Mike said.
Mike's love of building and willingness to help families propelled his hobby to a new level when he became a Habitat staff member. By the time of his retirement, Mike says that being at Habitat was a calling.
