Message from CASA's New CO-Presidents
The two Annes are looking forward to our new art season. We hope we can begin to fill Marti's shoes. Anne Leonard will be the public face, running the meetings and setting the agenda. Anne Lane is doing the newsletter and other behind-the-scenes' tasks. We are both available and open to your concerns.
We look forward to a productive year with many opportunities for CASA artists. The exhibits and mini-workshop committees have planned some exciting events and programs, and we are proceeding with the October workshop led by Jacqueline Sullivan. However, more help is needed if we are to have a committee to set up a spring 3-day workshop. Jane Coppola has generously offered to help but she is not going to go it alone! Step up folks-as we have said, if we don't have a committee by September we will have to skip a spring workshop.

Youth on Their Own
Youth on Their Own (YOTO) has become an ongoing project for CASA. A place to drop off personal products will be available at all meetings and someone will deliver them to YOTO to be put in tote bags for distribution. Tote bags and back packs are all still needed as well. If you have simple housewares like pots and pans, coffee pots, dishes, etc. that you are ready to move on to a new home, these can be delivered directly to YOTO headquarters at 1660 N. Alvernon Way.

Youth On Their Own (YOTO)
CASA Outreach
YOTO Mission Statement:"Youth On Their Own ...is dedicated to support the high school graduation and continued success of homeless youth by providing financial assistance, basic human needs and guidance."
At the February, 2014 meeting, members provided enthusiastic feedback to the outreach project for Youth On Their Own (YOTO), Tucson. YOTO currently has just over 800 youth (to age 21) registered. The primary reason that youth are "on their own" is due to court order.
Toiletry-School Supplies Bag:
CASA members will provide a repurposed tote bag or backpack; tote bags can be decorated by you OR left for the young person to do it OR left as is.
Any of the following may be donated: toilet paper, paper towel, deodorant, tooth brush/toothpaste, shampoo (2 in 1 if you can), body wash or soap, girls - tampons, notebook, loose leaf, pencils, pens, markers, pencil crayons
Additional Ideas from CASA members:
-journal with pens and collage supplies (will be given to YOTO staff for distribution to an interested student)
-soaps, shampoos collected from hotels are welcome
-band aids and other first aid supplies
-non-perishable foods (could go to the YOTO "mini-mall" where youth can get items they need)
-small appliances e.g. toaster, coffee maker, etc. (Cathy Lacey will deliver)
-we did a collection ($81.00) to buy Visa gift cards and/or essential items; cash donations can still be made
-for members unable to assemble a bag of items, volunteers will stay following the March meeting to assemble whatever loose items have been brought in
-a handmade card of any type will be put into each bag with a greeting from CASA
CASA members feel strongly that we need to collect for YOTO at each monthly meeting. We will need 2-3 volunteers to agree to put out collection boxes, store items for tote bags or deliver them to YOTO.
IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR MORE IDEAS, PLEASE CONTACT CATHY LACEY AT: c.lacey@sasktel.net

S.O.S!
ATTENTION: Website Help Needed!
Currently, there is no one person who is able to manage our website. Among other things, this means there is no one able to update the member gallery on the website. (We thank Peggy Steffens for the help she has given, but she is not able to do this.) While we could certainly use a web master/mistress to rework the whole site, we need at least someone who knows how to enter pictures in the system we currently have. Several possibilities that we had hoped for have not panned out. We are hoping to budget for a new site that will be simpler to manage. This is definitely on the agenda for the coming season. Please, if you have any skills, contacts or suggestions let us know!

Please do this as soon as possible so that your name will appear in the CASA membership directory. Also, remember that we are a volunteer organization, so please select an area that you may be able to provide assistance when you complete the form.
If you are not able to pay at a meeting, feel free to send your dues to Peggy Steffens, CASA Membership Chair, 7002 N. Donatello Way, Tucson, AZ 85741.

Article Headline Major Workshop Coming in October!
Workshop: CONTEMPORARY TEXTURAL COLLAGE
Instructor: Jacqueline Sullivan
Course Description This class is about building highly textural collages and collage elements. Texture will be formed in many ways including use of miscellaneous acrylic media and other household items. On the first and second day of the workshop, students will work on paper and develop several textures. During this process, they will learn about using several acrylic mediums as glues and textural elements. These textural elements will then be painted with acrylic paints and students will review color theory and learn about paint additives. Metallic foils and paints may be added to highlight textured areas of the paining. Small collages will be made combining these textural pieces in various ways, including layering and weaving. On the last day of the workshop, students will switch to working on canvas and develop a highly textured mixed media abstract, using the processes that they learned on the first 2 days. Design qualities of an Abstract Painting is an integral part of the class. Each student will receive a book with instructions and color photos for the various techniques that are covered in the class.
Time: Wednesday, October 22 through Friday, October 24, 9 AM to 4 PM. Place: Unitarian Universalist Church of Tucson, Goddard Hall, 4831 E 22nd St., Tucson, AZ 85711 Cost: $250 for members, $275 for non-members (membership is $45).
