"How to Document Your Artwork
in Today's Digital World"
Robert Renfrow, recipient of many national and international awards for his innovative photography, co-founder of Artist Research Tours and International Studio, and teacher of photography and Photoshop joins CASA in presenting "How to Document Your Artwork In Today's Digital World". He received his BFA in Photography/Video from Kansas City Art Institute graduating as Salutatorian of his class. His studies continued at the University of Arizona where he earned his MFA in Photography.
His professional life includes teaching Photography and Photoshop at his Tucson studio. He and artist Catherine Nash, both studio owners, offer individual classes in both art and photography and some very innovative collaborative instruction. These may be accessed at www.papermakingresources.com/classes.
He is also an Artist-in-Residence for the Arizona Commission on the Arts and on the faculty of the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum of Art Institute. As co-founder of ARTIS, a non-profit organization, he dedicates his time to helping students, professors, and artists travel and study abroad. He adds to his credits many years of teaching at the university and to independent students in Italy. Exhibitions of his work have been viewed throughout the United States and Europe. We are so lucky to have this very gifted and accomplished individual in our community. Plan to attend as he offers us skills in navigating art and the technical world. Put very simply in his words: "You only need to know what you need to know."
Mini-Workshop with Robert Renfrow
follows the meeting
Participants will need a laptap computer with Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 installed and working before coming to the workshop. This software is available online or from Best Buy, CostCo or other office supply stores. For users of Apple computers, the Apple software that comes with your computer is not appropriate for this workshop.

Applying for Signature Membership Status
Signature Membership is conferred on active members who have been accepted into three juried exhibits. We no longer issue certificates to member participants in shows. The exhibits chair keeps a record of what shows you have been in. When you feel that you have been in three juried exhibits, you need to contact the exhibits chair, currently that is Carol Chambers, carolchambers@q.com, who will double check with her records and then inform the membership chair that you now have signature status. Your name will be listed in the next newsletter and on the Signature Members' roster. |
President's Message
What a great meeting we had with Miles Conrad. He answered so many of our questions and gave us lots of good information about moving forward with our art in whatever way we are headed. I always feel so very proud of CASA when we have speakers who are outstanding members of the art community visit us and make presentations. I think they go away with a new appreciation for who we are and how we impact the local art scene.
Elections were held for three of the four elected positions on the CASA Board of Directors. We have a President (Marti White), a Vice President (Anne Leonard) and a Secretary (Ann Loud). We are still looking for a Treasurer. We also need people to fill the positions of Program Chair, Mini-Workshop Chair, and Newsletter/Website Chair. These are important positions for our organization. I must admit to being very discouraged by the difficulty we are having in finding the leadership needed to continue the work of CASA. Without these positions we may be facing having to disband the organization. When I consider that in the sixteen years that CASA has been in existence and has grown into the program that it is today, there have always been people who were willing to help with the leadership of the organization, it saddens me to think that we might have to cease to exist for lack of people willing to give something back. There is support help to get you started. Please consider taking one of these positions. You can contact me or Nancy Norton if you just want to talk about what is involved in the job.
I am really excited about the opportunity of being involved with a benefit show for Habitat for Humanity. I look forward to seeing what you will be bringing us to fill their beautiful new building with art that we hope will make some money for them (and, in the process for you) through sales of our artwork. Check out the prospectus in this newsletter for details.

Your Important Input Is Needed
In the next few months, your board members will be planning the programs and events for the year 2013-2014. We would really like to have your input on what you would enjoy experiencing in the next year. Nancy Norton has put together a survey to get a feeling for your opinions. Since so many of you leave when spring comes to the northern states, we would like you to take the time now to answer these questions and e-mail or send the completed survey by snail mail to Nancy before you leave (or as soon as possible if you are not leaving). It really does help in making plans to have your input. A survey is attached to this article. You can download the pdf, answer the questions and copy paste into an e-mail for Nancy or print it off, fill it out and mail it to her. Please do take the time to do this!

Habitat for Humanity Benefit Show Coming in April
The long awaited news about a benefit show for Habitat for Humanity is finally a reality. After months of planning and negotiating with Habitat, we have a plan and some details for you. There is the potential for a very large show so we will be opening up the submissions to four paintings or assemblages per entrant. The entry fee will be low. This show will be juried on April 5, 2013 at our regular meeting. Habitat will be having two receptions - one by invitation only to their most loyal supporters and another open house. These are scheduled for April 11 and 12, 2013. All exhibiting artists are invited and encouraged to attend both events - all CASA members are encouraged to attend the open house. A 25% portion of any sales will go to Habitat. Artwork will go home with the purchaser and the artist can replace the spot with another painting. Habitat will allow us to leave the artwork up as long as the artist is willing to leave it - it will still be for sale throughout that time period. Habitat supporters are encouraged to purchase artwork that will stay in the building.
There is a very loose theme which can be interpreted broadly. Habitat stands for HOPE, HOME, FAMILY, and COMMUNITY. Other themes are CONSTRUCTION, BUILDING, HOUSES, PLAYGROUNDS, ETC. Habitat wants the work to be saleable, so if these themes are not where you are right now, do your best work and submit it.
In addition to the benefit show, a group of CASA members has created a collaborative work that will become a permanent installation in the entryway of the building which is located on Mountain Avenue, just south of Prince Road. We hope to be having a dedication of that work with media coverage at some point in the spring. There will be a plaque on the wall identifying CASA as the creators of the artwork.

You can visit the installation at 3501 N. Mountain Avenue
