"Creativity takes courage."

                                ____Henri Matisse

Each piece of created art is an expression of the courage that exists within us as artists. The other side of creativity holds self-doubt about who we are as artists. We look with wonder at our work and hope it will happen again. Our presenter, Lynn Rae Lowe, invites us to "Shake loose those creative fruits. Stand tall and shake with all our might."

Lynn Rae's journey translates her awareness of her surroundings into the visual. She is an award winning metal artist with numerous Museum and Public Art Commissions and has received International Awards for Excellence. She has also received two Niche Awards for creative design. As an actress and performer, she has appeared in local theater productions, written and performed with SRO Theater Troup, ala Saturday Night Improv, and has sung at Carnegie Hall.   Writing and gardening are also a part of her being as she became a certified Master Gardener and has written newspaper articles such as "The Gardening Guru." As a teacher, she originated the Colorado artist in the school program. She is all about making imagination come to life and experiencing the joy that it brings to an individual.

Her journey continues with "Drawing It Out" which is based on her core belief that it's not that artists are special kinds of people, but rather each person is a special kind of artist.  Lynn Rae is true to her soul and would like each of us to have confidence in our abilities and use our imagination to connect with the lantern of our soul.  We are lucky to have her as part of the Tucson community. We as CASA members are fortunate to have her guidance in developing greater awareness as we find the power of our creativity.

Letter from the President

These past few weeks have been so busy for us at CASA. The meeting with Francheskaa and her workshop that followed were well received. We are so grateful to have her as a member of CASA and appreciate her willingness to share her knowledge and creativity with us. It was a pleasure to be able to announce the first members to be awarded "Silver Signature" status by the Board of Directors. They are our two remaining active founding members - Bernita Brisson and Joan Shaw.

The jury for the assemblage show which we have been preparing for since the summer months went very well. We have twenty artists represented in the show and thirty pieces of work which will hang at Mesch, Clark and Rothschild from January to May. It was exciting to see all these efforts collected for the jury which was done by one of our new Honorary Members, Kyle Johnston.

The collaborative project that several CASA members are working on for Habitat for Humanity has begun to take shape. We now have it ready for the architect to develop a hanging system for installation when it is completed. We have reached the "fun" part of putting the really exciting parts of the work together into its final stage. I believe this will be a work we can be proud to have our name attached to! You will have an opportunity to do your part in the project very soon as we will need to ask you for some funds to cover the costs of those materials that we were not able to find in our "junking" excursions.

I recently had the opportunity to see the exhibit at Tubac Center of the Arts, "Timeless Meditations." The show juror was Catherine Nash and she put together a diverse and stunning show with national representation. I was proud to find work by three of our members - Judith Kohn (two pieces), Carolyn Ferguson, and Deanna Thibault. While at the center, I looked for and found the bricks that we purchased for the entry area in honor of Lee Corral and Pat Marohn. Next time you are at the center, look on the right hand side of the entry patio for our two bricks. I am proud to have CASA represented there. Also be sure to check out the new addition to the center. The expansion gives the center a great deal more ability to meet the needs of the art community in southern Arizona. The Studio Gallery space is located in the new addition. When I was there Ann Mason's work was featured. A visitor from Seattle was very taken with her work and I proudly claimed her as one of us and was able to talk to him about her work.

The Circle of Book Clubs and The Humane Society will be hosting a book and art event on December 2, 2012 to benefit both the Pima Library Foundation and the Humane Society. Dr. Kristin Nelson, a Scottsdale veterinarian will be presenting her book - Coated With Fur. We will also have a silent auction of animal inspired art. (art may be two or three dimensional, in any medium or combination of mediums, and animal inspired is extended to birds and fish - so any work with feathers, fins and gills will be welcomed. We hope that members of CASA will generously support this event by donating originals or prints of original artwork for the auction. The Circle's book events are typically held at beautiful private homes and wine and light refreshments are served.

Exhibit Opportunity at Tohono Chul Park Gallery

Dear Artist,

The crisp morning air in October has always been a sign that summer has begun to wane and the Tucson arts scene will begin to pick up momentum with the arrival of a new season. With a new year on the way, we are proud to announce our 2013 exhibit schedule, which can be viewed in it's entirety on our website. As always, please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions regarding the upcoming exhibit schedule.

To kick off this exciting year of new exhibits, we are inviting artists from the Southwest region to submit work for Paper: From All Sides, opening on January 25, 2013 in the Park's Main Gallery:

We interact with paper constantly; reading the morning news, receiving a receipt from the purchase of lunch, reading a book in the evening, wrapping a gift, opening a card, cleaning a counter top, writing in a journal, getting a cup of coffee. Paper is so ubiquitous and intertwined with our lives, and especially for artists, this material can be a core component of the creative process, no matter what the discipline. This exhibit explores the divine qualities of this simple and unassuming entity in our daily lives.
