Design is the skeleton of collage. Color is the covering. The two are essential for a dynamite expression in collage. See how the four elements of design are utilized in a triad, complementary, split complementary and analogous color choice in the collages.

50/50 for 2011-2012
The board has decided that the money from the 50/50/raffle this year will go to help members who find their dues or mini-workshop fees are more than their budget can manage. Please contact the appropriate chairperson, Pat Duncan for dues or Carmen Williams for mini-workshops, to apply for help. |
Signature Membership
If you think you have qualified for Signature status, please send Carol Chambers, carolchambers@q.com, an email listing shows you have been juried into. Wisdom Words
"The purpose of life is a life of purpose."
__ Robin Sharma
"Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does."
__William James
You Can Make a Difference
When you show up for the people in your life, even though you're having a hard day, you make a difference.
When you share what you're dealing with, even though it makes you feel vulnerable, and help other people through your honesty, you make a difference.
When you practice what you preach, you make a difference.
When you honor your needs to create a sense of inner calm and well-being that permeates your interactions with others, you make a difference.
When you cut yourself some slack so you can use your energy to love, create, and inspire, you make a difference.
When you give people the benefit of the doubt, you make a difference.
When you listen fully, instead of waiting to talk, you make a difference.
When you focus more on being kind than being right, you make a difference.
When you find beauty in the world around you and help other people see it, you make a difference.
When you realize that your everyday actions are your greatest legacy, you make a difference.
__ Seth Godin
"Compassion, love, shared joy, shared risk and adventure, shared laughter - these are what make life worth living. At the end of our lives, that's how we'll look back, or others will look back, and assess value. Everything else is relatively meaningless."
__ Roderick McIver
"The key word is trust. Trust everything that happens in life, even those experiences that cause pain will serve to better you in the end...Along with developing a basic trust in the rhyme and reason of life itself, I advise you to trust your intuition. It is a far better guide in the long run than your intellect."
__ Henry Miller

Message from the Presidents
We just had our first meeting at our "new home," St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church. We were just delighted with the welcome we received at the church and the great new facilities. They are excited to have us use their space for our meetings and mini-workshops and it shows!
Marti and I extend our thanks to all the Committee Chairs for making us look good. JoAnne Hungate inspired all of us with her "Pressing Paint" program. We thank Carol Ann and JoAnne for a great kickoff for the new year's activities.
We are so proud of the nine CASA artists who have worked so hard on the 9/11 project and we thank every member who has contributed time, money and materials to make this happen. Please attend the reception at the Jewish Community Center, Sunday, September 11, 2011, from noon to 2:00pm. We are also happy to report that "3000 Souls" has been accepted into the Tubac Center of the Arts "Working with Paper" exhibit. Please support your organization by attending the Opening Reception on Friday, October 14, 2011, from 5:00-7:00pm in Tubac.
The Pastiche show, "Cosmic Shift: The Dance of Earth, Fire and Light," will open October 10, 2011, and will run to November 19, 2011. The Opening Reception will be Sunday, October 16, 2:00 - 4:00pm. Carol has worked very hard to find exciting venues for us this year and we look forward to seeing all of your creations.
Thanks again and again to Eileen Dudley and Carmen Williams for their ongoing work for our Three-Day Workshops and Mini-Workshops. You can download your registration forms from this newsletter or the CASA website.
Our next meeting is Friday, October 7, 2011, at 9:30am. Our honorary member, David Adix, will be there to jury the entries for the Pastiche Show. Hope to see you there!
Sandy Brittain and Marti White, Co-Presidents

Fall Three-Day Workshop with Nancy Christy-Moore
Arizona artist Nancy Christy-Moore, an internationally recognized, award winning painter, will present CASA's fall 2011 Workshop, "Letting Go: Adventures in Watermedia" on October 26, 27 and 28 at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 4831 E. 22nd Street, Tucson.
Nancy has been painting and teaching for nearly 30 years, and works in a process she has developed which she calls "inner painting." She has evolved from a watercolorist into a mixed media painter working with water-based pigments and layering with Japanese collage papers and a variety of acrylic mediums. Rather than planning her paintings, she allows the pigment, color and movement to guide the image, often being surprised with what develops during this process. She usually works in a series, two of which are featured on her website, www.nchristy.com.
