Ocoee Middle School

With the first nine weeks behind us, we now look forward to another successful quarter. The Ocoee team has been working very hard to make sure that students are learning the information that will lead to success on the state assessments they will tackle in the spring.

At the same time, we have been very focused on positive cultural initiatives that define Ocoee Middle as a world-class high school preparatory experience. Sixth graders will soon be receiving their first Renaissance Cards and all the perks that come with that distinction.  PURE Cardinal is very active with teachers 'Swooping' students and now students having the chance to Swoop their teachers too (ask your students about Swoops)! Band and Orchestra have had the opportunity to show off their talents and our new Digital Photography class is up and running!

Of course, the biggest news is the victory of our boys' soccer team ending an undefeated season with a huge win over Lane Nona Middle School. Congratulations to our District Champion Cardinals!!!!

Cardinal R.E.D. - This Week's Faculty Highlight
Matt Thompson, Cafeteria Manager

"Matt Thompson is always looking out for students and staff members, and would do anything you ask of him. He is always engaging the students in the cafeteria and in the hallways, making sure they are all eating, and if not, finds out why. Matt works hard every day giving 110%. I know that all of the cafeteria staff love working for him. When the district takes him away, you can really feel the void it makes in our school."

National PTA Reflections Program

The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts in an educational way. Through the program, National PTA, Ocoee Middle School PTSA and PTAs across the country urge students in preschool through grade 12 to create and submit original works of art in the medium of their choice- dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts - reflecting on a specific theme. There also is a special artist division option for students with disabilities to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in the program. Students are recognized each year for their artistic ingenuity to bring the theme to life in a way that is personal and meaningful.

Founded in 1969, the National PTA Reflections engages nearly 300,000 students and their families in arts education activities each year-encouraging students to explore the arts for fun and recognition. For more information about the program, visit PTA.org/Reflections.

About PTA: PTAŽ comprises of families, students, teachers, administrators, and business and community leaders devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of parent involvement in schools. PTA is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit association that prides itself on being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for public education.
