Thank you to everyone that invested the time to attend our Open House last week. We had a great turnout (pictures below) and I am certain all of our guests had an enjoyable evening. This is yet another example of the ongoing commitment our community makes to the school.

On Monday we enter the seventh week of the school year. We are also rolling out our tutoring program this week (below). If the first quarter progress report indicated that your student might need some additional support, please take advantage of this opportunity right away.

Please do not forget to cheer on our Knights as the soccer teams have two key matches this week; especially vs. arch rival Avalon Middle on Wednesday!

Best wishes for a successful week and thank you for your readership.

In Knight Pride,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Teach-In 2016
PLEASE SAVE THE DATE:
Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Teach-In 2016 brought over 3,600 volunteers and 7,500 volunteer hours into 167 participating Orange County Public Schools. Teach-In is a great opportunity for schools to showcase their teachers and students to members of the community and introduce students to various careers and experiences.

The Foundation for Orange County Public Schools presents Teach-In 2016 in partnership with Publix Super Market Charities as part of American Education Week. This year's theme is "Great Public School: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility."

Lake Nona's school hours are from 9:30AM - 3:50PM and we're looking for speakers for any amount of time, whether it consist of speaking to one class period, multiple, or all day long.

Speakers must be ADDitions approved. Should anyone be interested in speaking, they can contact me, preferably by email: Krista.knappins@ocps.net

Attention 8th Grade Parents

As you already know, the PSAT 8/9 will be administered to 8th graders on October 19, 2016. The College Board has released an electronic PSAT 8/9 student guide. Please access the link below to take advantage of this helpful resource.

Media Minutes

It's official! We are "The Best in the State"!!! Why? Lake Nona Middle School Knights logged more summer reading minutes than any other school in Florida.

For the third year in a row we are a winner in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge. This year the contest changed to award one (1) school per state the honor of being able to call itself the best in the state. And the Knights rose to the challenge. Congratulations to everyone who read during the summer and logged minutes for us!

Camp Harmony. A place to relax, swim in the river, and stage epic water fights. A time to escape and admire the outdoors. That was how Heath Lambert wanted to spend his summer. But nobody told him that he would spend it running for his life. Almost every animal in the surrounding forest - thousands of them, from squirrels to wolves - has gone on the attack. Even the camp's horses! If Heath and his friends are to stay alive, they have only one place to go. But getting there is just half the battle.

PTSA

Thank you for all who came to OPEN HOUSE and stopping by the PTSA table. It was great to see so many of you and also meet new families.

PTSA is doing great things for teachers and staff. Have you heard about Hat Day? It is this Friday, September 30. For just $1.00 students get to wear a hat at school all day. Baseball caps, University caps, silly hats give students a chance to express themselves. The wrist-bands can be purchased at lunch on Thursday, September 29 or Friday morning when entering school. So remind your son and daughter to break into their stash and bring a buck to school!

Art department NEEDS your help. Please drop off wire hangers and empty paper towel rolls at the front office in a bag marked "Art department." It is so easy and yet meaningful to help give our teachers what they need.

Platinum Royalty is here! This is the old concept discount book fundraiser taken to a whole new level. Local and national discounts, simple apps to locate "deals around me" to restaurants, shopping, hotels and more. Cards are $20 each and when used you will reap financial rewards far greater. Simply go to our PTSA website or Facebook page for the on-line purchase link. Oh , 1 more great detail . . . the card, once activated, is effective until December 2017. You will be thrilled you did!

Sporting Knights

Both of our soccer teams will be going into the division championship games undefeated after beating Corner Lake Middle last Wednesday night. The boys' score was 2-1 and the girls' score was 2-0.

We could not have asked for a better opponent in Corner Lake to test our strength and how well we are able to play under pressure. We played two great games Wednesday night during a crucial time of the season for both of our teams. It was great to see our goalies finally get some action. Tito Cabrera and Sophia Nichols are two goalies that define and own their positions. They are fun to watch. Both teams played well in our victories. It was truly a team effort and a job well done by everyone out on the field.

Please come out and support our number 1 seeded teams at home on Wednesday! Games start at 5PM! Both Avalon and Lake Nona will be going into these games undefeated and tied for 1st place.

We will also be hosting a home game Monday against Arbor Ridge!

Go Knights!
