  Please remember that there is no school this Monday, September 5th in observance of Labor Day. Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday, September 6th. I think you will enjoy this issue as it covers a wide range of 'Tiger Happenings' from our third week. Please do not forget about the free tutoring if needed and the senior class meeting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday. Both of these are important activities here in early September. Please drive safely over the Labor Day weekend holiday and remember to buckle up. I look forward to seeing everyone back on campus Tuesday morning for an on-time start to the 4th week of the quarter! The Senior Class meeting will be held in the James W. Wilson Auditorium on Wednesday, September 7 at 6:00PM Seniors will receive information of upcoming activities, fundraising activities and financial obligations for the their senior year. The Jones High School Guidance Department will be in attendance to discuss graduation requirements. Parents and or guardians are strongly encouraged to attend this informational meeting.

AP Literature & Composition with Mr. Green (Aug. 30) . . .
Students in Mr. Green's AP Literature & Composition class were evaluating the effects and purpose of allusions in a text. Students worked together in groups to submit their analysis in a Google Doc.

Student Recognition Angel Ortiz, Class of 2017

Senior Angel Ortiz uses the College & Career Center to research scholarships recommended by Mr. Hadley. She plans to do her first two years at Valencia College and then transfer to the University of Florida for the Physician's Assistant program.

Meet Mr. Hadley  We are thrilled to have Mr. Keith Hadley with us full time in the College & Career Center! Mr. Hadley graduated from Tallahassee Community College and Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University. He previously served Florida State University's Office of Financial aid by conducting various outreach activities that focused on teaching student financial literacy. Juniors and Seniors, please stop by the College & Career Center during lunch or after school. Seniors may get a pass to the CCC during elective classes, if approved by the teacher.
Mr. Hadley has already done an awesome job of lining up several college visits (below). He will share with us numerous scholarship opportunities throughout the year. Students, don't miss out on these wonderful opportunities.

Schimelda Louissaint and Vanessa Phanord (Class of 2018)
Congratulations to 11th grade International Baccalaureate students Schimelda Louissaint and Vanessa Phanord who were selected to attend the University of Central Florida College of Medicine Health Leaders Summer Academy from July 18-22. Schimelda and Vanessa had the opportunity to work with professors from the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences in various lab settings and group research projects. They were also provided with information vital to post-secondary educational paths in the field of medicine. Way to go, ladies!

Ms. Kamia Brown (Class of 1999)
 Congratulations to Kamia Brown on winning the Florida House of Representatives District 45 seat! Ms. Brown was the JHS Class of 1999 Vice President. She went on to graduate from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University and has worked as a Legislative Aide for the last 11 years. You make J-High proud!

Last Friday night, Elevate Orlando hosted a joint tailgate with Jones and Oak Ridge before the big game. Elevate Orlando develops values and leadership skills while preparing students to graduate with a plan for the future. For more information about Elevate Orlando, please contact Mr. Torre.
----------- Opportunity for our Tigers: Teen Ambassadors The Teen Ambassadors are a vibrant group of teenagers that have unique leadership opportunities through their participation. In monthly meetings, the Teen Ambassadors learn about the nonprofit business model and discover a variety of careers in the arts. They get behind the scenes opportunities as well as access to performances, mater classes, workshops and community engagement.
The goal of the program is to develop leadership, writing and communication skills. They contribute ideas and work to develop and promote their ideas, often taking over the arts center's social media channels and creating their own promotional materials.
The Teen Ambassadors are an important part of the School of the Arts and the Dr. Phillips Center.

Our Varsity Football Tigers pulled off a huge win against Oak Ridge last Friday night with a score of 52-6. We are proud of these boys and most importantly commend their sportsmanship on the field and after the game. GOOOO Tigers!

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes had a great turnout of 15 students and two parents at last week's interest meeting. Students applied for leadership positions and the next meeting will be held soon. All are welcome at Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which is run by student leaders. Please contact Coach Brogger with any questions.
Girls' Volleyball
On August 30, the Varsity Volleyball team played Montverde Academy. While they weren't able to pull off the win, all of the ladies did their best and exhibited excellent sportsmanship.
