Mr. Martinez With no school on Friday, this will be a 4-day school week for students as we close out both the second quarter (43 days) and the first semester. Students will also be off on Monday, January 18 for the the Dr. MLK, Jr. holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, January 19.

Now with only a few days left in the quarter, we encourage all of our Grenadiers to make sure that any assignments or projects are brought current checking with ProgressBook or their teachers to make sure nothing is left undone.

I hope this finds your week off to a good start and, as always, thank you very much for the continued support.

Rigor in the Classroom

Colonial was chosen to participate in the Google Expeditions pilot program. Eighteen classes participated in the program on Friday. Students explored a variety of locations, including the Palace of Versailles, American Museum of Natural History, a literary tour of London, and more (below).

Google Expeditions are guided tours of places schools buses can't go. They are comprised of
virtual reality panoramas and are led by a guide or teacher as seen with our students here.

Athletics

Congratulations to the girls basketball team on their outstanding performances in Washington D.C.  last month. Great wins against Eleanor Roosevelt High School, MD (47-41)  and St. Mary Louis Academy (58-53)!

Student Safety Concerns
Traffic on campus

Parents, please be advised that student should be dropped off for school in the parking lot in front of the gym. Signs clearly designated the student drop off/parent pick up location. Students are not to be dropped off in the parking lot in front of the administration building. The bus loop is located in front of the school. Dropping students off near the bus loop creates an unsafe situation. Please help us to ensure the safety of students and staff by following the recommended route to drop off your students in the morning.

Wednesday: Tech Center Dual Enrollment Information Session

Freshman Campus: Student Recognition
Grenadiers of the Month - Freshman Campus

Jeyleane R. Diaz
Jeyleane displays ALL of the characteristics one would hope for their ideal student to have. She works independently, and offers to assist strugglers in any way she can, to help them learn. She is extremely helpful with students who are still learning English - assisting them in ways that I am unable to. Jeyleane is extremely smart, caring and her peers enjoy when she takes the time to help them.

Matthew R. Solomon
Matthew was selected to the state American Choral Directors Association. He performed with the Male Honor Choir with Dr. John Freer from UGA. Matthew has been a leader in the chorus program and has been an instrumental part of the choir being designated as the Honor Choir for Disney Candlelight Processional.
