* Morning drop-off on Tower Lane circle - please do not pass other cars on the circle - observe the 5 mph speed limit

 

* Pickup - Tower Lane parking lot is closed near the front entrance from 2:30 until 3:15 pm every afternoon to allow for bus pickup.  Park on Tower Lane and inform your child to be careful if crossing the street.

 

* During the first two days of school students will meet their teachers for abbreviated class periods.  

 

* Grade Level Assemblies will be held the first full week of school.  

 

* Lunches will be served, check this month's WV School Menu.

 

* No late bus runs the first week.

 

 

Student class schedules for the school year were available starting yesterday, 8/28, on PowerSchool. Families should have received an email from the district yesterday with information about a "single sign-on" feature for parents with multiple children.  Click here to see the instructions.

 

Assignment Books and School Directories 

Assignment books can be purchased the first week of school. The Assignment Book contains valuable information about our school, and allows your child to organize his/her assignments is a meaningful way.  Homeroom teachers will distribute purchased assignment books and collect order forms (with $15 check made payable to "WVHSA") from those who haven't purchased one online. Order forms for assignment books and directories were enclosed in the back to school packet mailed to all parents and guardians.

Welsh Valley Clubs and Activities (before and after school):

Please ask your child about recent assemblies that were held for information about the clubs and activities at Welsh Valley.

Welsh Valley Daily Announcements

Announcements are made every morning, they include information about activities, 6th grade intramurals and 7th & 8th grade sports. The announcements are always included on the Welsh Valley page of the LMSD website.  Link to Daily Announcements 

 

Late Bus Runs  - Updated 2nd week of school

Late bus routes are run every day at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., leaving from the front of WV.  Students should tell the bus driver as they board their bus which stop they need. Late bus routes are posted at the school and online.

 

Here are a few important details and dates to know before the season begins:

 1.  September 4th - A Fall Sports Fair will be held during 10th period.  All 7th and 8th grade students interested in participating in a fall sport should attend the sports fair.
  2.  September 9th- All PIAA/Physical forms are due.  You can download the form here. The PIAA form must be completed and turned in before the student is allowed to tryout for a sport; if you are unable to get an appointment at your regular doctor; a CVS Minute Clinic or Walgreens, Minute Clinic can also perform a physical
  3.  September 11th- 1st day of Fall Sports tryouts
  4. All parents and guardians are suggested to sign up for e-alerts for any schedule changes that might take place. You can sign up on the website:  wvdragons.digitalsports.com

The paragraph below is from Mr. McGinley's letter to all parents sent last week.

 

In the aftermath of the tragedy that occurred last December in Sandy Hook, CT the District engaged in a comprehensive review of safety and security practices. A School Safety Task Force was formed that included parents, staff, and community members. The Task Force met over a period of several months to review school safety procedures. As a result of these efforts, the District has enhanced security monitoring in several locations and has physically relocated school offices at three schools in order to properly monitor access and entry. Our primary goal is to ensure that every school is a welcoming, healthy and safe environment where children can grow, learn and thrive. As you visit the schools you are likely to experience some changes in how you access the school building. Please understand that we continue to welcome you to our schools and truly desire your active engagement. We trust that you will understand that we will be working to balance our desire to welcome you to the building with our obligation to hold student safety paramount.

 

Welsh Valley's New Security Procedure   

As the result this will be new procedure at Welsh Valley this year: 

 

As we begin a new school year - All parents/guardians and visitors must be buzzed into the main office at the front entrance of the building on Tower Lane.

Beginning this year, anyone wishing to move beyond the main office and into the school building will be asked to show photo identification.

In addition, any person who is not a parent or a guardian and is picking up a student will also be asked to show photo identification.

Dragonbites is published every Thursday during the school year.  New submissions should be emailed by noon on Tuesday to  WVDragobites@gmail.com  in order to be included in Thursday's email edition.  Dragonbites is intended to publish news and announcements related to Welsh Valley Middle School and the Lower Merion School District.
