Maryland is now the only state with a breed-specific policy, since 2012 when Ohio residents successfully changed the 1987 law declaring pit bull dogs as "vicious."

Join B-More Dog and our friends from Stubby Dog for an exclusive screening of "Guilty ''Til Proven Innocent," the documentary examining breed specific legislation in Ohio, the effect it has on its local communities, and answering the important question:

"Do we have a dangerous dog breed problem, or just dangerous laws targeting dogs?"™

Tickets are now available.

2014 Legislative Session

The Maryland General Assembly's legislative session is heating up!

If your Delegate(s) is on the House Judiciary Committee, they need to hear from you NOW!

The Judiciary Committee's hearing on House Bill 73 (HB 73) is scheduled for Thursday, January 23 at 2 PM in the House Office Building, Room 101.  If your Delegate(s) is on this committee, please contact him/her to state your support for HB 73.

A similar bill was introduced in the State Senate as Senate Bill 247 (SB 247).  The hearing on the Senate Bill is scheduled for a hearing in the Judicial Proceedings Committee on Thursday, February 6 at 1 PM in the Miller Senate Building, Room 2 East.

Attendance at these Hearings is encouraged!  Last year some of our lawmakers commented that the "pit bull" issue must not have been that important anymore because the hearings were not well-attended (even though there were rallies!).

Public testimony is also allowed at Hearings. If you want to testify, make sure to review the House and Senate testimony guidelines.

Remember!
  • Find your delegate(s) and state senator at mdelect.net and keep their contact info handy
  • Program your cell phone with your legislators' office phone numbers.  We have learned that phone calls carry a heavier weight than emails.  It's ok to call after hours and leave a voice mail.
  • Register for Humane Lobby Day on February 4, 2014 organized by Tami Santelli at HSUS where Maryland's animal advocates can meet with our elected officials
  • Remember the Calls to Action below.  This is why so many calls are needed!
