LINEKONG is a second tier Chinese online games developer and operator. The company started in 2007 as a PC online game developer. Over time it has evolved with the fast-changing games landscape in China, and recently announced that while it had dropped its focus on client-based games in the past, it will take one step further and drop even its webgames focus to turn entirely to mobile games development for both iOS and Android. The Chinese mobile market is attracting many entrants, all of who are contributing to the massive fragmentation of the market.

China Mobile announced that 25% of all apps downloaded from the company's Mobile Market app store are game apps, but those 25% yield 87.5% of all revenue earned by the app store, confirming past analysis by Niko Partners. China Mobile says that the percentage of users who pay for mobile game apps is very high, though the range the company stated is wide at 7-30%. Niko's estimated that 37% of mobile gamers spent some money on mobile games in 2012.

Last week Venture Beat published an article based on an interview with Lisa and data from our March I-Café games tracker. The article focused on WoW and LOL in I-Cafés, but that is not really the point. The point is that certain genres are more suited to I-Café play and currently to a younger set of gamers who still enjoy I-Cafés. The data is available in our online research store on our newly relaunched website.
