Pearland Bikram Yoga
Greetings!

Many times in our lives we have huge bumps in the road, hardships that we might not have expected.  It is in those hard times that we build our inner strength.  As the owner of Pearland Bikram Yoga, I recently experienced a very bumpy road in my business.  After five years in our original location, I had to make a change.  My choices were relatively easy.  The first choice was to move the business because the lease on our space had ended.   The second choice was simply to close the business.   We at PBY have spent the last five years building relationships with our students who have become our friends.  Even though it would have been easier for me to close our doors, I made a decision for the good of my students, for us all, to continue on -  knowing that the disruption in the business would be difficult for everyone.  Now only a little more than two weeks after the initial shock wave hit our studio, we are comfortably settling into our new space.  After a bit of work, the studio has now become a lovely sanctuary in the most unlikely of places.  The calmness and positive energy that we all felt at our last studio is now tangible at the new location.  We are recreating it at our new, safe place.

Today I received an email with the quote below.  I thought it very timely for all of us at this juncture where our lives cross paths.  Please read it and see if you see what I saw when I read this.  The beauty of life is that All is Good.  Everything happens for a good reason and we all benefit from our learning.

The Universe is Awesome :-)

"The truth is that the more intimately you know someone, the more clearly you'll see their flaws. That's just the way it is. This is why marriages fail, why children are abandoned, why friendships don't last. You might think you love someone until you see the way they act when they're out of money or under pressure or hungry, for goodness' sake. Love is something different. Love is choosing to serve someone and be with someone in spite of their heart. Love is patient and kind, love is deliberate. Love is hard. Love is pain and sacrifice, it's seeing the darkness in another person and defying the impulse to jump ship."

Thank you for being part of our studio,
Taz

Student of the Month - Michelle

I had driven past the Bikram Yoga Studio several times, wondering what it was.  I didn't know much about yoga and nothing
about Bikram Yoga.  I finally decided to stop in and sign up for a couple of classes.  How hard could yoga be?  When I opened the door, I was approached by the most excited and bubbly woman I'd ever met in Texas.  She told me the benefits of Bikram Yoga, explained why the heat helps, and even let me go inside the hot room. I immediately purchased a package of 10 classes.

On January 4, 2010, I entered the torture chamber for my first practice.  It seemed hotter than it did the day Taz showed me the room.  I knew there were 26 postures so I thought I would count them in my head as class progressed so I'd know how far along we were.  There was one problem, I didn't know there could be more than one part to a posture. By the time we were to the balancing series, I thought we were almost done.  Wow-was I wrong!  By the time the class was in rabbit pose, I was ready to run out of the room!  But I didn't, and I continued to practice 2-3 times a week for the next nine months.

Then, something unexpected came up.  The company my husband and I were working for wanted us to go to Cartagena, Colombia for a refinery expansion job.  For the next 13 months, we lived and worked in Cartagena, coming home to Texas for a week at a time every few months.  Because my job was on a construction site, I spent a lot of time stuck in an office trailer.  We worked ten-hour days and the drive to and from the job site was an hour each way.  I didn't exercise and wasn't comfortable walking around the streets of a foreign country where I didn't know the language.  I gained 30 pounds and was in terrible shape.  My eyesight had gotten worse, my cholesterol went way up and so did my blood pressure.

We finally moved back to Pearland in March 2012.  I immediately went to the studio to sign up for yoga classes so I could try to get back into shape.  I walked to the counter and there was the friendly familiar face of Taz.  She asked where I had been for so long and was surprised when I answered, "South America".

I started practicing again but was frustrated that I couldn't do half of what I used to.  The extra weight got in my way, I wasn't flexible and I couldn't finish a practice without laying down.  After time, I dropped 20 pounds and I had a waist again!  My vision improved, and according to my eye doctor, it was probably a result of losing weight and yoga.  My cholesterol and blood pressure improved too.  My husband even tells me that I am happier when I am doing yoga. (He is happier too!)

I still have ten more pounds to lose. But I feel so much better and am happier with myself compared to how I felt in March 2012. I'm proud to be a Pearland Bikram yogini. Namaste.
