Greetings!
"To enjoy good health, to bring true happiness to one's family, to bring peace to all, one must first discipline and control one's own mind. If a man can control his mind he can find the way to Enlightenment, and all wisdom and virtue will naturally come to him." ~Buddha
See you in the hot room!

Students of the Month:
Demirors Family
I am Deniz and have an active lifestyle doing some type of exercise such as running, walking, step, weight lifting, aerobics etc. for the last 28 years. As my age progressed and we started using more technology to perform our professional work, like many people, I started to develop shoulder, neck and knee problems, as well as, calcification on my neck which was giving me terrible pain in my right arm, all the way to my right hand. In December 2010, my daughter who had already tried and loved Bikram Yoga, purchased a gift for me of a 10 class pass at Pearland Bikram Yoga. I have been a consistent practitioner since then, and I enjoy it very much. I practice an average of 3 times per week. Bikram Yoga not only relieves the stress and tension in my muscles but also connects my mind with my body. I combine Bikram Yoga with other exercises that I do to stay fit and keep my muscle mass intact. I like to row, brisk walk and weight lift. Bikram Yoga compliments all of the other forms of exercises that I do by helping to stretch deeply and properly. It also helps to eliminate muscle pain, especially after weight lifting. In the last 15 months, I have lost 26 pounds by eating healthier and exercising regularly and consistently which included Bikram Yoga. As part of my weight loss, I followed the Intermittent Fasting Program (IF) along with the exercise and Bikram Yoga for 3 months. This helped me to lose the last 10 pounds of "stubborn fat". When I started my body fat was at 34% which was almost in the obese range. The IF, exercise and Bikram Yoga helped me to reduce my body fat to 22% which is the low end of ideal (very close to lean range). Another important improvement was seen in my annual blood work results. My internist could not believe the change in everything she looked at and how much better (for my age) they all were. The calcification on my neck is gone and the pain in my arm is improved very much as well. Mehmet (my husband), who also exercises regularly and consistently and has for years, was hard to convince to practice Bikram Yoga. My Son, Emre and my daughter tried really hard to convince Mehmet that Bikram Yoga would help to improve his flexibility and balance. Again, my daughter bought him a 10 class pass which was 15 months ago. Mehmet loved Bikram Yoga from day one and enjoys seeing the improvements in his flexibility and balance. He had a serious surgery in March of 2012 but was back practicing only 4 weeks afterwards. We all strongly believe that Bikram helped him to recover much faster including helping his wound to heal much faster. Our Son Emre works as a Software Developer but also practices competitive Jiu Jitsu 5 days a week which is a very intense, heavy workout. He also does Olympic weight lifting to keep his muscle mass intact and to build the strength that he needs for competition. He has lost 100 pounds in last 4 years. He followed IF for the last 6 months to lose the final few pounds of stubborn fat and to reduce his body fat to 5% or less. Unlike my husband and myself, Emre started practicing Bikram regularly to stretch deeper, connect body and mind and reduce stress. Our daughter who lives in downtown Houston also practices Bikram Yoga as often as she can. She often travels for her work but works out regularly and says that Bikram is what helps her feel relaxed by providing the deep stretch and of course, the body/mind connection. Even though we all have very different reasons for practicing Bikram Yoga, we all agree that the chief overlapping reason is to CONNECT the body and the mind! We all benefit in similar but also very different ways. It is also something that we enjoy practicing together, as a family.

A Little Angel Asked: A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?" "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you." The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy." Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak." "And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life." "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name." "You will simply call her, 'Mom.'"

 Things to Rememeber:
- No colored drinks in the hot room
- Never leave the room during class. If you think you may need to be cause you are sick or injured, place your mat at the back of the room, even if you are a seasoned practitioner
- If you are a new student look to the people on the front row as to how to perform the postures
- Do not place yourself under a vent if you don't want to be extra hot
- Always work with the teachers words. It can take years to untrain the mind into blindly "doing what comes next". Be the exception. Listen then do. It is one of the few places that you can develop and do this. It creates type of mental acuity available to so few, namely the disciplined, attentive Yogi
- When in the hot room, be silent
- If you want to overheat and become dizzy and faint, then wipe the sweat off of your body
- Rest if you are tired
- Do not sit down on your mat during water breaks unless you intend to sit out the posture
- Do not pour your water on your body in class. If you are hot, rest.
- If you are on the front row then know that you are a model for all of the rest of class. If you do the practice to the best of your ability so will the others. If you rest, so will the others.
- Corrections from instructors are meant constructively and come without judgement
- Praise from teachers is not preferential. It is because the teacher happened to be looking at you when you did something amazing. We are aware you regularly do, but we are not always watching you.
- Every day is different, use what you have available to you that day to the best of your ability, without comparing yourself or others to any other time

Note to Taz (not from Taz)
In light of the fact this month contains Mother's Day, we wanted to say thank you to you. PBY is more of a family than a job, and as often as you tell us that you are thankful to and for us, please know that the feelings are mutual. Thank you, Taz, our proverbial PBY mom.
Many Blessings and Deep Gratitude,
PBY Staff

Oneness Blessing
Saturdays 10:30-11:45am
Cost: Priceless (free)
|
The Oneness Blessing (also known as Oneness Deeksha or Diksha) is a non-denominational benediction. A unique and specific blessing. It is the transfer of Divine Energy which, over time is designed to bring about the state of Oneness in the recipient. The Oneness Blessing initiates a neurobiological change in the brain that when complete enables the senses to be free from the interference of the mind. When the senses are unclouded by the mind's interpretations, a natural clarity of perception occurs with accompanying spontaneous feelings of joy, inner calmness and connection to the Oneness in everything.
