I am excited to announce that Breakthroughs has signed a book deal! Pauline Turton, Founder and Director, and myself have each written a chapter in the forthcoming book Step Into Your Vision 2.0 - Top Business Leaders Share Their Goal-Setting Secrets. We are excited to work alongside fellow co-authors like Les Brown, Eric Lofholm, Shamayah Sarrucco, John Assaraf and many more.

Pauline's chapter title "Touching Lives by Changing Brains" captures the heart of her 25 years of researching brain development and educational therapy. She shares the story of her two children, their learning disabilities and the struggle to keep hope alive while looking for answers. "It is very important to have goals as a family and to have open conversations about how you are going to achieve them. We all had to make sacrifices. When their grandparents died, we inherited money. We sat our boys down and explained to them that we could set the money aside in a college fund, but that at this point if things didn't change, going to college was not very viable, or we could invest this money in trying to find answers as to how we could help make learning easier for them. We made the right choice."

Look for Step Into Your Vision 2.0 to launch on Amazon next month! The next edition of our newsletter will include a sneak peak at my chapter about growing up with multiple learning disabilities.

It happens to everyone at least once.  You enter a room in your home, get in the car, or simply step outside and realize you do not remember why you went there, or what you needed, in the first place.  Leave the area, and then frustration mounts when you realize after you leave home that the library books are still on the kitchen counter. more...
By the time you are thirsty, cognitive function has already dropped 10%

The human body is 60% water.  Fluids are necessary for digestion, nutrient absorption, circulation and body temperature regulation.  When fluids are low, the brain triggers the thirst mechanism.  While dehydrated, the body will slow down functions until fluid balance is restored. more...

When parents learn of a child's learning disability it is not uncommon for them to experience a grieving process similar to the stages of grief described by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.  While not grieving a death, there is grief surrounding expectations parents may have held for that child. more...

Open HouseInformation Night - Tues, February 18th

Dealing effectively with learning disabilities and emotional challenges is not only solvable, but at Breakthroughs in Learning we have specific programs that can help almost any situation.  Matthew Turton, Learning Disabilities Expert, will share specific techniques to help your child or adolescent get past their particular learning issues and thrive.

At Our Seminar You Will:

  • Learn that the brain is like a muscle: when you exercise it, it will grow.
  • Discuss case studies indicating the specific changes that take place in the brain which will help your child achieve success over their particular learning issue
  • Discover that overcoming learning issues is not only possible, but that we also have targetted strategies that will help you deal with them on a daily basis
Study Tip
Study Skills 101

Space it out! A relatively new learning technique called "spaced repetition" involves breaking up information into small sections and reviewing them consistently over a long period of time. So don't try to memorize the entire periodic table in one sitting - instead, learn a few rows every day and review each lesson before starting anything new.

We are excited to bring you these great resources and information. Please feel free to share these articles on Facebook or other social media. You never know who may need the information.
