Rollins Road Construction Update 
The Lake County Division of Transportation will be restricting turn movements at Rollins Road, Lake County Route A-20, and Illinois Route 83 starting Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at 6 A.M. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Rollins Road will be moved to the newly constructed lanes under the temporary bridge at Illinois Route 83 and the newly constructed bridge carrying the Canadian National Railroad over Rollins Road west of the intersection. Northbound and southbound traffic on Illinois Route 83 will continue to use the existing temporary bridge over Rollins Road. This will restrict ALL turn movements at the intersection. Intentions are to reopen the turning movements at Rollins Road and Illinois Route 83 by the end of November, pending weather or any other unforeseen circumstances. Download Press Release

Possible Flood Insurance Discounts for Unincorporated Lake County  
Since 2008, thanks to the leadership of the County Board, Lake County has participated in the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Community Rating System (CRS) program. With a Class 6 community rating, residents within unincorporated Lake County who meet certain requirements are eligible for up to a 20% savings on flood insurance premiums. Residents should contact their flood insurance agent to obtain individual savings information.  More

November Election Voter Registration (Register by 10/7)

Residents who are new to Lake County, moved to a different county address, turn 18 on or before November 4, 2014, or have a name change need to register by Tuesday, Oct. 7 with a deputy registrar. Requirements to register:  
*    U.S. citizen
*    18 years old on or before the November election
*    Precinct resident for 30 days prior to Election Day
*    Provide two forms of current identification
Registration is available at the County Clerk's office and at most municipal, township and library facilities. Lake County residents can visit LakeVoterPower.info or call 847.377.2410 to confirm registration status or find the nearest registration location.

Peterson Road Reconstruction: Lane Closures to Begin September 15
The Lake County Division of Transportation will be restricting left turn access to northbound and southbound IL Route 83 from Peterson Road beginning Sept. 15, at 6 a.m. The closure is expected to last 3 weeks and is necessary as part of the Peterson Road reconstruction and widening project.
Detour Route : Peterson Road, to Midlothian Road, to Winchester Road to IL Route 83.

Public Information Meeting September 15 on Wadsworth Road Intersections
The public is invited to learn about and provide input into the Wadsworth Road Intersections Study for improvements to the intersections of Wadsworth Road at Dilleys Road, US-41, and Kilbourne Road. This study will look at improvements to address safety deficiencies, existing capacity, as well as accommodate future travel demand. The meeting will be an open house format where residents can ask questions and provide input.

Lake County Sheriff's Office Participating in Prescription Drug Take Back on September 27

If you have unwanted or unused prescription drugs, it's important to dispose of them properly to avoid harm to others. Instead of flushing them or throwing them in the trash, bring them to the sheriff's office. There will be three drop off locations as part of the Prescription Drug Take Back event on September 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Winter Deicing Workshops

 You may not be ready to think about winter just yet, but local governments and snow removal companies have already begun planning.  Road salt pollution has negatively impacted our rivers, creeks and lakes, but there are alternative products and practices we can use to keep our roads and parking areas safe. Lake County private and public snowplow drivers and deicing applicators are invited to attend two workshops to learn how to stretch your salt supply, save money, and reduce environmental impacts.  Learn more.

See enormous kites being flown and/or fly your own.
