FEMA Deadline Approaching for Storm Damage Assistance
For any residents or businesses that suffered damages during the April-May storms and flooding in Lake County, the deadline to register for assistance with FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is Tuesday, July 9. Residents and Businesses are STRONGLY encouraged to register with FEMA in order to be eligible for disaster assistance.

Restaurant Health Inspections and Food Safety Results Available Online
Did you know that you can check how your favorite restaurant performed on its inspection by the health department? The Lake County Health Department provides the results of restaurant inspections on its website, including complaints and problems inspectors found.
Reports are updated regularly, but you can also look up individual restaurants anytime. The reports are detailed, indicating whether the health department is doing a routine inspection or investigating a complaint. Find Inspection Results Here

Protect Yourself and Your Family from Lyme Disease
The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center is cautioning residents to be particularly aware of ticks this summer as Lyme disease cases are becoming more prevalent in Lake County. Ten years ago in 2003, six cases were reported, while in 2012, 17 cases were reported. Between 2003 and 2012, 100 cases of the illness were confirmed in the area. Thus far this year, six cases have been reported. While most cases in the past were diagnosed in people with a history of travel outside of Lake County, most cases this year have been attributed to tick exposure in Lake County.

DBE Certification Workshop Hosted by Metra
Small business owners, construction firms, professional service firms and suppliers can learn how to get certified as a "Disadvantaged Business Enterprise" (DBA) that may lead to lucrative procurement and contracting opportunities. Metra is hosting a free DBE certification workshop to guide businesses though the initial DBE certification process.

Lake County Resident is Illinois Veteran of the Month
Petty Officer 1st Class Lisabeth Ann Risley, U.S. Navy, was honored as the Illinois Veteran of the Month for June. She resides in Round Lake Beach, Lake County, IL. The Veteran of the Month award highlights and honors the work of Illinois veterans whose contributions in service to the veteran community and their local communities are truly above and beyond.
Award recipients are those whose efforts add to the powerful narrative that veterans are dedicated, lifelong public servants from whose efforts all of Illinois' communities stand to benefit. Lisabeth was presented a proclamation signed by Governor Pat Quinn and IDVA Director Erica Borggren, as well as a State Flag. Watch video

22nd Annual Civil War Days July 13 - 14
Lake County Discovery Museum Lakewood Forest Preserve in Wauconda Entrance at Route 176, West of Fairfield Road
The Lake County Discovery Museum is proud to present the 22nd annual Civil War Days encampment in 2013. The event features infantry, cavalry and artillery reenactors, as well as musicians, sutlers, medical personnel and civilians. Ongoing drills, kids' activities, and Civil War era shopping are available both days.
