Update: Cedar Lake Rd at Monaville Rd Roundabout

The Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) will be reconstructing the existing intersection at Cedar Lake Road and Monaville Road as a single lane roundabout. In order to safely transition from a four-way stop to a roundabout intersection, closure of the intersection to through traffic is necessary. This closure is planned to occur during summer 2013 after school is out from June to August for 71 calendar days. Exact dates for the closure will be publicized in advance of the road closure.

Project Information

This will be the fourth roundabout built by LCDOT, others are Riverwoods Rd at Everett Rd, Hunt Club Rd at Wadsworth Rd, and Hunt Club Rd at Millburn Rd. More information about roundabouts is available on the LCDOT website.

New Drinking Water Sample Kit Distribution Pilot Program

To encourage more users of private wells to have their drinking water tested, the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) recently implemented a pilot program to distribute water sample kits to villages and townships in the western part of the County, where many residents rely on private water wells. Making these kits available will save residents one trip to Libertyville, making it easier and more convenient to have their water tested. LCHD also hopes that making services more available in these communities will create greater awareness of annual water testing, water well maintenance and protecting and preserving groundwater as a valuable resource.

The following locations are participating in this pilot program and have water sample kits available to private water well owners:

Townships: Antioch, Fremont, Grant, Lake Villa
Villages: Fox Lake, Lindenhurst, Long Grove, Wadsworth

Residents should follow the instructions provided for water collection and can drop off water samples at the Lake County Central Permit Facility/Environmental Laboratory, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Water Samples cannot be accepted on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The analysis fee to test for safe drinking water standards (coliform bacteria and nitrates) is $16.00. For more information, call 847.377.8030.

Blue Kids: Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention

During the month of April, don't be surprised to see "blue kids" popping up around Lake County. Blue Kids Lake County is a child abuse awareness and prevention campaign that began in 2012 by the Lake County Children's Advocacy Center and the Family Violence Coordinating Council. The campaign is designed to provide residents of Lake County with information that promotes cherishing children, supporting families, and building strong communities. Placing a sign in front of your home or office, shows your support for the children of Lake County.
For more information, call 847-377-3155.
