Community Forum, March 5 in Antioch

As a member of the Lake County Board, I want to know what's important to you so our strategic plan represents the community's priorities. We are holding five community forums to engage in meaningful dialogue with residents and stakeholders. You can help shape important policy and budget decisions, and influence where the County will focus its resources. There will be a forum in the Antioch area on March 5 and I encourage you to attend. (For a complete list of all forum events, visit www.lakecountyil.gov/communityforums). We will thoughtfully consider this input as we develop our long-term strategic plan. Lake County Division of Transportation Snow Removal Operations

When winter weather strikes, the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) has more than just plows and salt to clear the roads. There is an entire "Snow Command" behind the scenes utilizing technology and years of research to make the operation as efficient and safe as possible. LCDOT plows roughly 800 lane miles of road, split into 25 routes. Lake County's 25 routes only cover county roads (identified by the 5-sided blue and gold route markers). State routes are plowed by the Illinois Department of Transportation, and municipal and township roads are handled by the individual cities or townships. Learn More.

Pine Dunes Forest Preserve

Policy direction was received at Board committee meetings in January that authorized negotiations between the Lake County Forest Preserves and the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority for preparation of an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA). This IGA would govern the creation and restoration of wetlands in a newly acquired portion of Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Newport Township and would implement public access improvements such as trails and parking lots. New trails here would ultimately link the Millennium and Des Plaines River Trails. "We are delighted to partner with the Illinois Tollway at Pine Dunes," said Ann B. Maine, president of the Lake County Forest Preserves. "By working together, we can more quickly restore 85 acres of wetlands to provide critical habitat for a variety of rare birds and other wildlife and create new trails for people to enjoy, all in a fiscally responsible way." Read more about the project in these news articles: News-Sun, Daily Herald.
