St. Ignatius Turkey Dinner October 20, 4-7 p.m. St. Peter's Catholic Church, 557 Lake St., Antioch The mouth-watering turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, is available for take-out as well as dine-in. The evening also includes a bake sale and a raffle for cash prizes and more, including a homemade turducken dinner. Turducken consists of a de-boned chicken stuffed into a de-boned duck, all stuffed into a turkey. Ticket prices are $11 for adults and $5 for children 10 years of age and under. To order dinner tickets, call St. Ignatius Church at 847.395.0652, or purchase tickets at the door of Hanley Hall beginning at 4 p.m. October 20. The dinner is a fundraiser for St. Ignatius Church. Trick or Treat of Downtown Attioch October 27 The Village of Antioch, along with many businesses, will hold a Trick or Treat of Downtown Antioch from noon to 5 p.m. Community trick or treating in Antioch will be 4 to 7 p.m. October 31. Concert and Kids Costume Contest October 29, 7 p.m. Antioch High School Auditorium Lakes Area Community Band's Annual Halloween Concert will include a costume parade for kids 12 and younger, with prizes awarded toward the end of the concert. The program features Halloween music for all tastes, including "Phantom of the Opera" for the grownups, and music from "Beetlejuice," "Spiderman" and "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" for the kids. The band will also be in costume, and the performance will include special effects. This free concert concludes with free refreshments. Lake Villa Trick or Treating October 31, 4:30 - 7 p.m. The Hidden World of Wolves and Coyotes November 8, 7-9 p.m. Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road., North Chicago Did you know that coyotes live in almost every green space of any size in the Chicago metropolitan area? Did you know that their cousins, the wolves, are also thriving across the state line in Wisconsin? Explore the hidden world of these fascinating predators and what their presence in our region means for people. Stan Gehrt and Adrian Wydeven, two of the foremost experts in the Midwest on coyotes and wolves,w ills hare an intimate look at these predators. Cost is $15 ($10 for members of Conserve Lake County, Friends of Ryerson Woods and Lake Forest Open Lands). Program partners are Conserve Lake County, Friends of Ryerson Woods, Lake Forest Open Lands, Wildlife Discovery Center and Lake County Forest Preserve District. Register online. Wine, Dine and Show Time II November 10, 5:30 p.m. This fund-raising event is an exclusive adult evening out to enjoy some of Antioch's finest food and drink, followed by a special performance of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" at P.M.&L. This fund-raising event supports the work of the District 34 Educational Foundation, which awards teacher mini-grants and summer school scholarships in District 34. More info. Holiday Meal Box Donations Open Arms Mission Food Pantry is seeking donations to provide 800 holiday food boxes to needy families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The pantry, 1548 S. Main St., distributes food from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to Antioch and Lake Villa area residents. More info. |
