The Lake County Division of Transportation is now accepting applications for the Adopt-A-Highway Program. Enrollment is open through the end of August. This program provides residents and businesses an opportunity to contribute toward a cleaner, greener environment, one mile at a time. Veterans Treatment Assistance Court
Veterans Treatment Assistance Court (VTAC) is a new program in Lake County that is specifically designed to help and screen all veterans coming into the criminal justice system.
Eligible participants receive extensive treatment and services, as well as mentorship from fellow veterans.
In this video, team members from the VTAC program discuss how the program works and the importance of helping those who have served our country.

Job Center Open House Celebrates Illinois Workforce Development Week Recognizing the critical role that Job Centers play in driving our economic recovery, the Illinois General Assembly has designated the week of August 26 through September 1 as Workforce Development Week in Illinois. As part of the celebration of Workforce Development Week, the Job Center of Lake County will host an open house on August 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Waukegan Job Center, 1 N. Genesee St., Waukegan. The open house will allow guests to tour the Job Center facilities, learn more about training and job search support programs for youth and adults, and discover programs that help local businesses attract and retain a high-quality workforce. SWALCO Celebrates 10th Anniversary
The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) recently held an open house at its facility located in Gurnee. In addition to highlighting its 10 years of service, SWALCO used the occasion to introduce a new program to encourage more recycling of solid waste in Lake County in the coming years.

Kids 1st Health Fair Provides Care and Supplies for Lake County Students

More than 1,000 children received free health services at this year's Kids 1st Health Fair, which marked its 20th anniversary. Each year, hundreds of volunteers provide immunizations, physicals and dental screenings to help children meet requirements for school.

Dispelling Myths Associated with Community Health Centers
Providing high quality health care that is affordable and cost effective for medically vulnerable people defines the purpose of the six federally-qualified health care centers operated by the Lake County Health Department. The centers serve more than 40,000 people annually. Yet, many times there are incorrect perceptions about how the health centers operate.
National Health Center Week, August 5-11, provides an opportunity to not only remind the public where health centers are located in Lake County, but also to clarify some of the most frequent misunderstandings patients have about the health centers.

Rock Rumble
August 10, 6 to 10 p.m.
Antioch bandshell
This event features six teen bands from the local and regional area competing in a battle of the bands format. At the end of the night, the 2012 Rock Rumble Champions will be crowned. The champions will earn a space at the September 8 Fall Fest lineup and a cash prize. You must be 21 or younger to compete. Rules and info.
17th Annual Garden Gazing Walk
August 10-11, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Antioch Garden Club will hold its 17th annual Garden Gazing Walk. Luncheon will be served at David's Bistro, 883 Main Street, from 11:30 am to 1:30 p.m. Raffle prizes will be available for viewing. Luncheon/walk, $25; garden visiting only, $12 in advance, $15 day of walk. The NICC, in conjunction with Northwest Town Sportsman Club, will offer hands-on firearms safety and review, archery, crafts, pellet shooting, target shooting, air rifle range and a trapping demonstration.
The Fox River Hunt Club will give a presentation on dog training, and visit the Sportsman Grill to taste different game. Fee is $10 per child, which includes food and all activities for the day. Info and pre-register.

Deciding that the well-worn paths that other musicians adhere to were not the proper routes for his own creativity, Jim Green draws forth percussive rhythms, harmonics, and double pull-offs with a piano-like approach that often sounds like one more guitar than is actually playing. Editors at "Billboard Magazine" named him "one of the best independent artists in the Midwest." Free.
Fire Station Ground Breaking
August 13, 5 p.m.
Lake Villa Fire District will break ground on a new fire station on Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. on property located south of the Lake Villa Township West Campus. The project is in the final permitting stage. More info from Lake County News-Sun.

Lindenfest Parade Grand Marshal Announced
The Lindenfest Parade Committee announced William Isaacson as the Grand Marshall of Lindenfest's superhero-inspired parade for 2012.
A true hometown superhero, Lindenhurst resident Bill Isaacson is a WWII and Korean War Veteran. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1942 to 1954, taking part in the invasion of Normandy, France on D-Day, and later in the Korean conflict. He returned home, went back to college and retired from Abbott Laboratories some 40 years later. He and his wife, Winifred, have 2 children, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
The Lindenfest Parade will be held on August 11, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The parade will step off from Rolling Ridge and Beck Road, heading south on Beck, turning right on Sand Lake Road, passing the Lindenfest grounds, and ending at Valley Drive. Come out and cheer for all our hometown superheroes.

Wadsworth Celebrates 50 Years
From August 17 to 19, Wadsworth's 50th anniversary celebration will feature food, drinks, live entertainment, games for kids, pony rides and a fire department demonstration, as well as other fun things for the young and old. One of the main entertainment features is the local band Bella Cain. You also can see all the pageant winners, and the anniversary celebration will feature the Wadsworth Country Pie Contest on Saturday afternoon, at a time yet to be determined.
In order to help defray the costs of the event, the Village is seeking sponsorship of all kinds for any amount from $100 to $5,000. Please contact Trustee Tyler Crittenden at 847.395.3886 if you're interested in a sponsorship.
