Petite Lake Road to Close June 25 for Realignment
The Lake County Division of Transportation will be closing Petite Lake Road to thru traffic from Illinois Route 83/Milwaukee Avenue, to Fairfield Road, for 66 days. The road closure and detour will begin the morning of Monday, June 25 and will end approximately Wednesday, August 29. The closure of Petite Lake Road is necessary to allow the county's contractor to realign Petite Lake Road from its present location to a new intersection and alignment, north of the wetlands.
The detour route for the Petite Lake Road closure will be Fairfield Road to Illinois Route 132/Grand Avenue, to Illinois Route 83/Milwaukee Avenue.

New Code Enforcement Hearings for Nuisance Violations in Unincorporated Lake County
When a property falls into disrepair, or when a person's actions create a public nuisance, it can cause health or safety issues for neighbors. For nuisance violations in unincorporated Lake County, such as tall grass and weeds, junk and debris, animals running at large, noise complaints and minor health violations, there is a new Code Enforcement Hearing process for resolving these cases quickly.

Mini Job Fair/Internship Job Fair - June 27, 2012
College of Lake County will be hosting a Mini Job Fair to recruit for full-time, part-time, internship, and seasonal jobs for CLC students, alumni, and community residents. Recycling Education Efforts Coming This Fall
 the Curbside Value Partnership (CVP) to urge Lake County residents - who already recycle in impressivenumbers-to kick up their efforts even more. This is part of a national program designed to help communities grow their curbside recycling programs through education. Through this partnership, SWALCO and its members will implement a campaign designed to increase awareness for curbside recycling, grow participation and ultimately boost the volume of recycling. Many Lake County residents are already doing a great job, and this campaign will help them understand how they can do even better. Discovery Museum Participates in Blue Star Program
This summer, the Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda is participating in Blue Star Museums to offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families. The free admission program runs through Labor Day, September 5, 2012. It is available to active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members bearing a Geneva Convention Common Access Card (CAC), a DD Form 1173, or a DD Form 1173-1, and up to five immediate family members. As part of the continuing restoration and management of 11 preserves, the Lake County Forest Preserves is conducting selective removal of invasive and native woody species from Greenbelt, Lyons Woods, Middlefork Savanna, Spring Bluff, Wadsworth Savanna, and the Southern Des Plaines River forest preserves. The goal of these projects is to improve controlled burn management and increase light levels to support oak regeneration, as well as the native shrub and ground-layer plants. Read more. Fort Hill Trail Tunnel Now Open
The Fort Hill Trail tunnel and Gilmer Road Trail parking lot are now open. Some minor work remains, but will not interrupt use of the parking lot. The tunnel offers trail users a safe connection between Lakewoodand Ray Lake. Preserve trails at Ray Lake are also now open to equestrians. There is no equestrian parking at Ray Lake. The Fort Hill Trail is open to hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and horseback riding. View trail map. |

Antioch Farmer's Market Is Open
Antioch's Farmer's Market runs every Thursday until October 11. The market will be open from 3-7 pm every Thursday. This year the market will be in downtown Antioch across from the Antioch Elementary Grade School, 854 Main Street.
Children's Advocacy Center Blue Kids Walk/Run - June 23, 2012
Lake County's Children's Advocacy Center's 3rd Annual 5K will be June 23. The event's kickoff is at 9:30 a.m. at the O'Plaine Community Park Shelter in Gurnee. Donations go to the center's commitment to providing a child-centered approach to reports of child abuse. For information and to participate, go to www.advocacycenter.eventbrite.com.
Antioch Firefighters Association Annual Pancake Breakfast and Blood Drive
The Antioch Firefighters Association will host the Annual Pancake Breakfast Sunday, June 24 at Fire Station # 1 located at 835 Holbek Drive from 7 a.m. - 12 noon. Proceeds go to purchasing equipment and fire safety materials, equipment for the Dive/Rescue Team, and training for department personnel. This year the Fire Department will also be adding a blood drive to the Pancake Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 12 noon at the Senior Center located just north of the fire house. Lindenhurst to Consider Electric Aggregation Bids at June 25th Village Board Meeting
Lindenhurst officials recently announced that the Village Board will be reviewing bids for the Village's Electric Aggregation Program at the June 25th Board Meeting. If bids result in a rate lower than ComEd's, the Board will also approve an Electricity Supply Agreement with the low bidder. On March 20, 2012, Lindenhurst residents approved a referendum authorizing the Village to implement an Electric Aggregation Program. In an effort to maximize potential savings, Lindenhurst avoided outside broker fees and collaborated with the Village of Lake Villa and the City of Highwood to jointly bid.

Antioch 4th of July Celebration
This 4th of July go to Antioch for an old fashion hometown Independence Day Celebration, "Symbols of a Free Nation." The day will kick off with the annual 5K Run for Freedom beginning at 8 a.m. ending on Main St. to observe the parade at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the parade at Williams Park is the Children's Fun Fair with live music from 4 to dusk ending the day with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. For event applications and further information go to www.antioch.il.gov or call 847-395-2160.
