Watch Video on Lake County's Sustainability Progress

Lake County is committed to promoting a sustainable environment. In fact, it is one of the County Board's top strategic goals. A few years ago, Lake County adopted a plan to enhance our sustainability efforts and since then, departments have been working hard to turn many of our strategies into actions. For example, the Lake County Division of Transportation has built three new roundabout intersections that allow for more efficient traffic flow through the intersection, thereby reducing emissions. Also, Public Works has enhanced its bio-solids distribution and the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) continues to have tremendous success with its electronics collections. In this video, learn more about Lake County's Sustainability progress. And, find out what you can do
to live greener by visiting Lake County's Going Green web page.

March is Severe Weather Preparedness Month in Illinois

While it might be chilly outside now, springtime and the severe weather that comes with it are right around the corner!  As we recently saw the devastating impact of the severe storms and tornadoes last week in southern Illinois, it's important to be prepared for severe weather when it arrives closer to home.

Up-to-the-minute weather information for the area is available at weather.gov/chicago.  Check for updates on local television and radio, and consider purchasing a battery-operated NOAA Weather Radio in the case of a power outage.

Visit Alert Lake County and Ready Illinois to educate yourself on the easy steps you can take to prepare for severe weather and to create a plan you and your family can use during weather emergencies.  Be prepared, and stay safe!

Blues Exhibit at Lake County Discovery Museum

The Blues: From the Heart and Soul brings the sound and feel of the Chicago blues scene to the galleries of the Lake County Discovery Museum in Wauconda.

The exhibit offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most influential periods of modern music and showcases the expansive collection of memorabilia from Chicago blues legend "Barrelhouse" Chuck Goering of Libertyville, Illinois. The Blues is on display through August 19.  Discover your own unique blues name, and take the spotlight on the interactive stage complete with guitar, drum kit, and karaoke to perform in your very own blues band.

"Barrelhouse" Chuck and other local blues artists will perform live and share their stories at special concerts offered during the exhibit run. Visit the exhibit home page for dates and times of live performances and other special exhibit programs and events.

For more information about the exhibit, call 847-968-3400. Download discounted admission here.

Lake County Transportation News

 Lake County's Transportation Market Analysis

Tuesday, February 21 - Friday, March 16

Lake County is conducting a comprehensive study to better understand the daily travel of people in the county so we can consider enhancements to our public transportation system. Specifically, we want to know where Lake County residents are going and when they are traveling. We also want to know how often Lake County residents use public transportation and whether or not public transportation options are available. This survey will give us data to evaluate public transportation options and consider reconfiguring the existing Pace Suburban Bus routes, creating new routes, or adding new public transportation services.

Please take a few minutes to answer some questions about your typical daily travel:  SURVEY
