PARENT TIP
Children learn new information in two stages: acquiring it and then processing it in the brain before it is stored away so that it has meaning.

You can apply some of the study skill techniques that teachers use if you get your child to go a step further than simply memorizing information.

Try these techniques to help your child process information and learn it.

Encourage your child to:

  • Recite or explain out loud in his own words what he has learned.
  • Compare and contrast one idea to another one.

River Ridge wins District Academic Challenge in double tie breaker

River Ridge edged out Taylor Mill in a hotly contested challenge to take the annual District Elementary Academic Challenge Champion title. The two teams battled through two tie breakers in front of a packed house in the Dixie auditorium on March 12. River Ridge claimed victory 18-16. Caywood placed third. Academic Challenge offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in several subjects in a fun yet competitive manner.

Congratulations to all of our academic teams and coaches on a job well done!
