PARENT TIP
Children learn new information in two stages: acquiring it and then processing it in the brain before it is stored away so that it has meaning.

You can apply some of the study skill techniques that teachers use if you get your child to go a step further than simply memorizing information.

Try these techniques to help your child process information and learn it.

Encourage your child to:

  • Recite or explain out loud in his own words what he has learned.
  • Compare and contrast one idea to another one.

Academies Grand Opening celebration was grandWhite Coat Ceremony
The Biomedical Sciences, Sustainable Energy Technology Engineering and High Performance Production Technology Academies new location was officially opened November 13.

Over 250 proud parents watched their children receive their white coats or demonstrate their career pathway skills during this festive evening. The parents had the opportunity to witness
first-hand why their children can't wait to get to school every day.

Students can't wait to get to school because they are immersed in the real world application of their chosen career path.

Career exploration is taken to a deeper level of career implementation in the Academies structure. Designed for students who know their career pathway, the academies provide a seamless pipeline for students to graduate college and career ready.

The Academies opened this school year and include six career paths: Engineering located at Simon Kenton, Media Arts and Informatics located at Dixie.
