In the rural communities where our Nicaraguan partners live, girls are less likely to stay in school through middle school, women are less likely to be employed and 50% of homes are run by single mothers.
At JustHope, we are working very hard to change these statistics. JustHope's Women's Programs are making small business loans to over 200 women! About 30 of those women are now running self-sustaining businesses! Nine young women are attending university through our scholarship program and are on their ways to professional careers!
Empowering these women to stand on their own has been every bit as important to JustHope as their financial success.
None of this would be happening with the hard work and dedication of Elba Delgado, our Director of Women's Programs and Social Business. Born and raised in Chacraseca, Elba was the first woman in her family to receive a college education. And she has used that degree to create change for her community.
