JustHope is proud to be collaborating with Nicaragua's efforts to increase the use of alternative energy! The increasing use of thermal energy (volcanoes); hydro energy (rivers), wind energy, and solar energy make Nica a leader in alternative energy development and use in Central America... and way ahead of the US! The government has made a strong commitment to moving forward in this area, and we have made a commitment to support this movement!
 We are excited to share that with your Wine for Water 2013 dollars, and some donations from partners, we have purchased a bank of solar panels to expand the capacity of the largest of the three water systems in Chacraseca! After renting the panels on a trial basis for three months, we have found that the system can provide water to users 24/7 (rather than a few hours every three days) without increasing the amount of electricity being purchased from the grid. The leaders and the 621 users in this system are thrilled with the increased capacity, and JustHope's water project advisors and engineers (both Nicaraguan and US) believe that the increased capacity of the system will not only allow this system to be fully self-sustainable from this point on, but will also provide some of the capital needed for improvements to other parts of the total water system!
