UPDATE...

You may have heard that TWO severe earthquakes have rattled Nicaragua in the last 48 hours. The first was Friday and was centered very near Leon (in La Paz Centro) and registered at 6.2. It shook Leon and Chacraseca hard, and there have been over 400 aftershocks. There was damage and at least one death in Leon, but none that we are aware of in Chacraseca. The damage reports from Leon are still pretty chaotic and changing, but first reports seem to include some damage to the hospital and the cathedral as well as to many houses in Leon. Across the country, over 50 homes were totally destroyed and over 1000 have significant damage. JustHope's staff and the medical volunteers that are there are all fine.

Another, slightly stronger, quake hit Saturday morning -- 6.6 on the richter scale. It was located closer to Managua, but was still felt in Leon.

Neither earthquake has any impact on our two mountain partner communities--Santa Emilia and La Flor.
