We hope you enjoy this lovely update from Elba:
Dear Friends,
Many months have gone by since the accident that completely changed my life. All this time for me has been very painful and frightening. Even though both my first and second surgery were done in the private Hospital of Managua --(thanks to the help of all of you who have shown a lot of love and solidarity) - my leg never felt right and I was worried because the days would pass by and at every appointment the doctor would tell me everything was fine and that soon I would walk. But I could see the x-ray, and I would ask myself... How is that possible, if the bone in my leg isn't lined up? I kept fearing... How will I walk, if I am not able to stand up on my own?
Leslie would receive each one of my x-rays, and send them to her doctor. Thanks to the generosity of the doctor and each one of you, my friends, I was given the opportunity to have surgery in the St. John Hospital by Dr. Paul Stafford. They were all so very kind to me.
The recovery has not been easy, but today - just 22 days after surgery, I took my first steps without any crutches or walker. You can't imagine the happiness I feel in my heart when I stand up and see I can walk! My sons and all of my family are very happy and thankful for all you have done for me--the financial help, the food you brought, the visits you made, the flowers and cards... the love. Thank you. And a special thanks to Leslie who was in the hospital with me, and had me in her home. She was a mother to me, always aware of my pain; when I would wake up she was always there taking care of me. I can't pay her or all of you for all you have done for me.
I am recovering my life thanks to all of you.
With a grateful heart,
Elba
