Sundays are 'family day' in chacraseca.  For most families it's the only time during the week they might add chicken to their meal...  and those who can take a little time away from the fields or other work...
First Communion

Sunday, June 23, was "First Communion Sunday" in Chacraseca. Families prepare for this important religious rite of passage for weeks before hand.

Father Tomas served communion...
and the celebration was accompanied by fireworks and refreshments! Next Sunday, the Bishop will visit the church in Chacraseca to confirm the children.

Baseball season in Chacraseca is May - October.

There are 8 teams, representing 8 of the 11  sectors, and they play every Sunday afternoon. Each team has to provide it's own equipment. So, players borrow gloves, bats, balls and uniforms from friends and neighbors.

The bases are often just grain sacks, and the uniforms are a rainbow of colors (they call them 'gallo pinto' which means painted rooster). Since they usually only have two balls to play with (they are too expensive to buy more), when one goes into the adjacent yucca field, they call it a
"Yucca home run" and stop the game while all the players go out into the field to search for the ball.

But the community turns out to cheer them on; and just like home, the concession stand is open for business!
