women of Santa Emilia

The women of Santa Emilia continue to struggle and overcome the challenges of living in poverty. Old challenges- scraping together enough funds to buy school supplies for a child or put tonight's dinner on the table... New challenges- a decrease in available jobs in their community, again... But these women are alive with that stubborn hope that will not stop. And they continue on, struggling, hoping, and overcoming.

working togetherOur friends, the Lopez family, opened their home to us and took pieces of our hearts, to keep. As we worked alongside them, building a shop for their beautiful artwork, we shared our lives, increased cultural understanding, and strengthened our friendships and partnership!

The Solidarity Summit, in which US and Nicaraguan partners gathered with community leaders to consider more effective ways of working together, was a perfect opportunity for the groups from the United States and the Pastoral Committee of Chacraseca to all learn from one another. All of our differences, which so often make our working together challenging, are also a beautiful reminder of the gifts and experiences we ALL have to gain in working together, leaning toward mutuality and sustainable community.

The women of Stitching Hope held their official Grand Opening!

It was a lovely celebration of art and community. These women are doing an amazing job of learning new business and management skills, working diligently to achieve schedule and production goals, and overcoming new hurdles everyday!
