GIVING THE GIFT OF HOPE
How it works: You buy a "share" in one of the life-changing projects JustHope is doing in critically poor communities in Nicaragua. You receive a beautiful Gift Card to give as a your gift. The card explains that a gift of hope has been given in the recipient's honor, and also explains the particular project that has benefited.
It's a gift that keeps giving well beyond Christmas!
Loaning Hope-
"Mujeres Unidas" (Women United) is the name of JustHope's microcredit program for women in Nicaragua. Women are given small loans of between $50-$250 to open or expand small businesses such as sewing, small stores, poultry & pork raising, and small crops. They work in groups to create each woman's project, establish their businesses (including training in business management), and support each other. These 'accountability' groups provide one another support and ensure the continuity of their group's bank. We currently have many more women waiting for loans.
"Becas" (education scholarships for children and youth)-
School is free in Nicaragua, but students need clothes, shoes, supplies, and transportation to attend. $50 provides one child with a uniform, shoes, socks, a backpack, notebooks and pencils.
Clinic Support-
JustHope's Chacraseca Clinic Support provides funds for some of the staff, medications for the community, and funding for the doctors and nurses to make visits to every sector every month! $50 provides medication for one week.
Dreaming Together Hardware Store-
Women are particularly hard hit by unemployment in Nicaragua as they have less education, fewer resources, and fewer opportunities. Also, about 70% of the households in Chacraseca are headed by women. JustHope is working to increase economic possibilities for women, both through microcredit loans for individual women, and through women-managed collaborative projects such as this Hardware Store.
Stitching Hope-
In Chacraseca, Nicaragua, is a group of impoverished women who
are developing a fabric art and sewing enterprise. Founded in 2011, these aspiring women are already contributing to their meager family incomes, and are hopeful that the work of their hands will contribute color, texture, and creative energy to their world and to the world at large. Your gift will help insure they have the training support they need to develop a sustainable business.
This year, rather than more "stuff" - give the GIFT OF HOPE to your friends and loved ones.
