 Please be sure to stop by the health office before the end of the school year and pick up all the medicine you have brought in for your student. Some medications are expensive like epi-pens and inhalers so please don't forget!! All medicine must be picked up by the last day of school, May 24 at 3 pm or it will be discarded.

A Letter from Principal Rantala

Greetings from Desert Canyon Elementary School
It's hard to believe, but the end of the 2012-13 school year is close at hand. I believe we've had a very successful school year, filled with great student learning and growth. All of our students should be proud of their hard work over the past ten months. Congratulations to our 5th grade students! We wish you great success at DCMS, knowing that your teachers at DCES have prepared you well.
Beginning May 28th summer hours will be in effect for all of SUSD with all buildings closed on Fridays. Please be aware that our office will be closed from June 5th to July 23rd. If you require assistance during this time, please call 480-484-1710 or e-mail crantala@susd.org or dlink@susd.org. Student class assignments for the 2013-14 school year will be posted at 9:00 AM Thursday August 1st in the east windows of the cafeteria. Students will be listed by first and last name. If you'd prefer your child(ren)'s name not be listed, please e-mail dlink@susd.org with this request. These class lists will be available during office hours through August 6th. Our Meet the Teacher event will be held Tuesday August 6th 9:00-9:45 AM. This is a chance for students to meet their teacher for the upcoming school year.
We are saying goodbye to a number of staff on May 24th. Ms. Akopyan, Mrs. Austin, Mr. Dunlap, Mrs. Earls, Mrs. Genenbacher, Ms. Giles, Mr. Herrera, Miss Jackson, Mrs. Knudsen, Mrs. Lupardo, Mrs. Moty, Mrs. Neifert, and Mrs. Potter are moving on from DCES. Please join me in thanking them for their service and dedication to DCES as well as wishing them good fortune in their next endeavors.
Lastly, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank the entire DCES community for their support during our time here. It has been a great privilege to be your Principal and Assistant Principal. We will always cherish the time we spent here. We know that DCES is in good hands with our amazing teaching staff and the leadership of Mr. Link and Mr. Achtziger.

SHOES for School and binders too!!!
Don't Forget.....
 We will be once again collecting School Supplies and new or gently used shoes for our Sister school Tavan Elementary. Also DON'T throw away those gently used backpacks! We will clean them up and make great use of them!
When you come back to school for Meet the Teacher Day, remember to bring an extra binder, pack of loose leaf paper, pencils and crayons to help our Sister school, Tavan Elementary. We will have a collection bin ready! As you are cleaning out this years old stuff, please set aside gently worn shoes also that are now too small.
Tavan thanks you! They recently received an A+ grade, an amazing accomplishment for a Title 1 school, and credit us for helping them with our community support!!
