Fall Day Out Fun On The Farm

Middle School Enjoys Fall Day Out

Fresh air, wide open spaces, and a day away from school to enjoy it all...who could ask for more?

For Lakehill's Middle School students, it just doesn't get much better than Fall Day Out.

The weather provided the perfect backdrop for the 150 students who headed north to enjoy a full day of play at Sisters' Grove Farm, Ms. Gajkowski's farm/homestead in Princeton, Texas.

Children enjoyed old-fashioned hay rides, swinging on the rope swing, and impromptu games of badminton and volleyball. Many relaxed on the porch with games of checkers and chess. After a cookout, students explored the property, running through the fields and orchard.

While the students clearly enjoyed a day off from school, Fall Day Out seems much more about the "out" - having fun with friends in the great outdoors. It is no wonder that this special day for Lakehill's Middle School students continues to be a favorite.

Lakehill Musical Offers Family-Friendly Fun This Weekend

The Upper School Musical Theater department is proud to present Damn Yankees this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Lakehill's Charles Wyly Auditorium.

The year is 1956 and the New York Yankees dominate Major League Baseball. In Washington, D.C., Meg Boyd and other "baseball widows" around the nation's capital lament the loss of their husbands to baseball for six months every year.

Disheartened by another loss for the Senators, Meg's husband Joe sells his soul to the devil, Mr. Applegate, for "one good long ball hitter" for his team. Mr. Applegate grants his wish, turning him into a 22-year-old Joe Hardy, the greatest ballplayer in history.

Will Joe use his escape clause and return to his wife before the final game...or will he play, thus sealing his fate?

Find out when Lakehill Preparatory School Upper School musical theater students bring Damn Yankees to the Lakehill stage on November 9 and 10 at 7:00 p.m. and November 11 at 2:00 p.m. The family-friendly show is suitable for all ages.

Ballpark Concessions will be open two hours before curtain and during intermission and will feature food grilled by Lakehill's Dad's Club. See the menu.

Tickets, which cost $5 for Lakehill students and $10 for General Admission, are available at the door. Reserved seats (first 12 rows) are available for $15 by email here.

Good Citizens

Students Get Out The Vote In Mock Election

Lakehill students know that good citizenship begins at home. All students had the chance to make their voices heard on election day. Faculty and Upper School filled out paper ballots while Lower School students cast their votes in special ballot boxes. Middle School participated in an online election, earning an "I Voted" sticker once they had made their choice.

November 5 - 9
Middle School Canned Food Drive

On November 7, the seventh grade boys defeated the eighth grade boys in a spirited Powder Puff volleyball game. Middle School students gained admission to the game by bringing three cans of food or $5 to be used to purchase food.

Each Middle School grade is busy collecting cans this week:
5th - fruit; 6th - tuna; 7th - vegetables; and 8th - soup. Anyone can donate to this worthy cause which will benefit three local food banks.

On Friday, Middle School students will square off in a friendly building competition, using the cans they collected during the week. The grade with the most impressive sculpture will earn - what else? - more cans for their cause!

This Week at the ESC

Sixth grade began their study of trees with a lesson on Tree Factories (trees are factories that make sugars and oxygen). After taking a few introductory notes in their science journals, they proceeded outside to find different types of trees. Students learned to identify the type of tree and to estimate the height and circumference. They also sketched the leaves and trunks and made bark rubbings.

Eighth grade continued their study of Solar Energy by completing a lab on energy transformations. They used light sticks, ammeters, and an apple to show how chemical energy can change into radiant energy and electrical energy.

Upper School Zoology continued with their study of diverse body structures while Digital Photography worked on the concepts of "shooting through" and "framing". They used the foreground to either mask or frame a subject.
