NWNW's Annual Fundraising Performance
Join Neighbors West-Northwest for an evening at the theater! Purchase tickets to an exclusive preview performance of Crooked on Thursday, May 16, and benefit the coalition of 12 neighborhood associations.
Set in Oxford, Mississippi, Crooked explores coming-of-age, friendship, and family through the perspective of strong female characters. The Daily Telegraph says "This is a wonderfully neat play, at once simple and complex, grappling with big issues - matters of faith, fantasy and the flesh - while keeping its sneakers firmly planted on the suburban topsoil of adolescent angst and domestic frictions." Please note the play includes mature themes. See our website for more details.
Tickets are available for purchase now: $25 per adult ticket or $15 per ticket for seniors, students and educators. Purchase over the phone (503 823-4265), in person at our office (2257 NW Raleigh) or online through PayPal.
This event contributes to NWNW's general fund, which provides staff and support to assist volunteers with neighborhood activities, including trainings, website and e-newsletter support and assistance with neighborhood events like emergency preparedness workshops and summer picnics.
Special thanks to CoHo Productions.
Update: Ticketholders will automatically be entered in a drawing for two tickets to an Oregon Symphony performance!

Northwest District Association AQC Report
By Sharon Genasci, NWDA AQC NWDA AQC (Air Quality Committee) met on April 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Breakfast Room at the Silver Cloud Inn (24th Place and Vaughn). One item on the agenda was the NWDA-Con-way construction clean diesel GNA committee, which has been meeting with Con-way, C.E. John, and New Seasons Grocery. New Seasons is the first project to go into the 20-acre Con-way master plan area. Our group feels that costs to the developers are only one side of the story. We must also consider health costs to the neighbors caused by an additional load of diesel, a known carcinogen, onto an already overloaded air shed next to the industrial area and I-405 freeway.

Pearl District Livability & SafetyBy Stanley Penkin
Noise, graffiti, trash, crime. These are just a few of the issues that your Pearl District Neighborhood Association Livability and Safety Committee (LSC) deals with on a regular basis. LSC meets every two weeks to discuss those and many other livability issues. The public is always welcome and encouraged to participate.
LSC has worked tirelessly to provide trash cans and dog stations throughout the Pearl as well as creating a volunteer Graffiti Buster program that has been very successful and a model for the city, but could use more volunteers. The committee meets regularly with Portland Police Bureau officers and Parks and Recreation park rangers to discuss crime and other street issues of concern and how to alleviate particular problems. Some of LSC's current activities include: working on a Pearl District-wide emergency preparedness initiative; the conceptual stages of developing an information and resource kiosk at a prominent neighborhood location; and the furthering of an initiative to encourage and promote recycling in neighborhood buildings.
Upcoming events include:
- Polish the Pearl -- Saturday, April 20
- Emergency Preparedness Committee -- April 24
- NW Examiner Community Awards -- May 11
- Community Graffiti Abatement Summit -- May 23
- Sundown @ Ecotrust Concert Series -- July 10, 17, 24, 31
- Movies in the Parks -- August 24
