CITY OF KINGSLAND CLEAN-UP CAMDEN BLITZ & SPRING EVENT COLLECTS TONS OF TRASH & WAS LOADS OF FUN!
April 28, 2016 (Kingsland, GA):  The City of Kingsland joined other cities across Georgia in celebrating Georgia Cities Week in recognition of the many services city governments provide and their contribution to a better quality of life in Georgia.

Beginning on Friday, April 22nd through Saturday, April 23rd in conjunction with Keep Georgia Beautiful and Keep Camden Beautiful, a 24-hour litter pick-up was held throughout our community. Over 130 volunteers registered and came out to pick up our community collecting 118 bags of trash weighing in at 860 lbs. T-shirts were provided to all participants and trophies were given to the team with the most volume of trash; "Georgia Department of Economic Development - Visitor Center Exit 1 Team" and the team with the most volunteers in a group, "Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay MCSF Battalion".

Local landfill fees were waived courtesy of the Camden County Board of Commissioners and the Camden County Waste Authority on Saturday morning and 3.72 tons of trash was collected. The City of Kingsland Public Works Department also hosted a "Grace Day" on Saturday morning where items that are typically not allowed were permitted to be dropped off a two locations. The Grace Day collections netted 1,400 lbs. of trash.

A county-wide coloring contest was held with coloring sheets displaying "Kingsley" the Lion our City Mascot; age 5-6 winner Savannah Green, Kingsland Police Department; age 7-9 winner Kristian Smith, our Kingsland Fire Department; age 10-12 winner Azumi Agullo and the Georgia Cities Week 'Go to Town"; age 13 and up winner Catherine Adams. All participants coloring sheets were displayed at Kingsland City Hall for the week.

On Saturday, April 23rd following the clean-up, the City of Kingsland hosted a free "Community Cook-Out" with city employees grilling and serving up 40 lbs. of hot dogs with fixings and bottled water. A "Touch-A-Truck" equipment display was held in conjunction with the event with vehicles from the Coast Guard Maritime Safety Security Team, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay Explosive Ordinance Disposal, City of Kingsland Fire Trucks and Police Cars and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit. The Kingsland Police Department hosted a "Drunk Goggles" golf cart driving course and in conjunction with the Camden County Sheriff Department had a prescription drug drop box for any unwanted or expired prescriptions. The Camden County Chamber of Commerce hosted a Business Expo with vendors lining the streets and showcasing their businesses. Thank you to the following businesses who along with the City of Kingsland sponsored the Georgia Cities Week celebration: IGA Kingsland, IDS Alarm, Georgia Power, TDS Telecom, Carter & Sloope and Thomas & Hutton.

The Kingsland City Council Meeting on Monday, April 25th was the final event with Mayor Kenneth Smith, Sr. presenting "Certificates of Appreciation" and recognition given to all City of Kingsland volunteer board members currently serving. Certificates and gift bags were presented to the coloring contest winners as well as the trophies to the Clean-Up Camden Blitz winners. Cake was served following the Council meeting.
