CITY OF KINGSLAND OFFICIALS CELEBRATE GEORGIA CITIES WEEK
February 12, 2016 (Kingsland, GA): City of Kingsland officials announced the city will be celebrating
 "Georgia Cities Week" on April 17-23, 2016. The city will be holding a variety of events throughout the week, including a community cook-out, a Touch-A-Truck Equipment Display, a 24-hour "Clean-Up Camden" blitz, and an art contest. The theme of this year's Georgia Cities Week is "Go To Town," showing the importance of a central gathering place for people and communities. This is the 17th year Georgia Cities Week has been celebrated in the state.

"We're very proud of our city and the services we provide that make it attractive to residents and visitors," said Mayor Kenneth Smith Sr. "Cities provide the services and infrastructure to help businesses grow, and set the stage for events where families and individuals can gather as a community."

Events planned for the week are:
  • Adoption of Georgia Cities Week Resolution: Monday, April 11th
  • Clean-up Camden Blitz: Friday, April 22nd - Saturday, April 23rd
  • Touch-A-Truck Equipment Display: Saturday, April 23rd
  • "Lunch in the Park" cook-out event: Saturday, April 23rd
  • City of Kingsland Art Contest
  • Visits/Guest Speakers: April 17-23
  • Recognition Ceremony: Monday, April 25th at 6 PM
Cities across Georgia will be celebrating Georgia Cities Week, coordinated by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), to showcase and celebrate cities and the many services they provide. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 521 member cities.

Adopt a Resolution
Kingsland City Council will adopt a resolution announcing Georgia Cities Week at regular council meeting on Monday, April 11th.

Clean-up Camden Blitz: Friday, April 22nd - Saturday, April 23rd
In conjunction with KEEP GEORGIA BEAUTIFUL and KEEP CAMDEN BEAUTIFUL, a 24-hour litter pick-up event will be held throughout the community on Friday, April 22nd - Saturday, April 23rd. To encourage the community clean-up effort, landfill fees will be waived courtesy of the Camden County Board of Commissioners. Several litter cleanups will be organized at different locations. The City of Kingsland will be hosting a "Grace Day" where items that are typically not allowed will be picked up at specific locations. Additional plans include an e-Scrap event (electronic recycling) and prescription drug take back event.

Touch-A-Truck Equipment Display: Saturday, April 23rd
Municipal & other governmental city equipment, such as fire trucks, police cars, garbage trucks, and helicopters will be displayed in one place on Saturday, April 23rd where public can view them. Department staff will be on-hand to answer questions. Other planned activities include: Drunk Goggles, K-9 Units, Fingerprinting kits, and appearances by the City Mascot and Fire Department clowns.

"Lunch in the Park" cook-out event: Saturday, April 23rd
Immediately following the "Clean-up Camden Blitz", the community is invited to celebrate Georgia Cities Week with a community-wide lunch in the park. The theme of this year's Georgia Cities Week is "Go To Town" and the City of Kingsland will be demonstrating the importance of a central gathering place for people and communities with a cook-out lunch.

City of Kingsland Art Contest: Monday, April 11th (submission deadline)
Beginning in March, the City of Kingsland will sponsor a community-wide art contest. Coloring pages & crayons can be picked up at Kingsland City Hall, Kingsland Welcome Center, or Kingsland Municipal Services building. Contest rules and coloring pages can also be downloaded at www.KingslandGeorgia.com.

Visits/Guest Speakers: April 17 - 23
City officials and department heads plan to visit local schools and civic clubs to discuss general information about the city and services the city provides.

Recognition Ceremony: Monday, April 25th at 6 PM
At the regularly scheduled Kingsland City Council meeting on April 25th, a special recognition ceremony will be held for citizens who have contributed to the betterment of the community.
