MESSAGE FROM CAROL
DAP Executive Director
As Valentine's Day approaches on Friday, I know you are busy buying flowers, chocolates, sending cards and making special plans to let your loved ones know how much they mean to you. I want to let you know what you mean to DAP because of your support for every family to be loving and nurturing.
Because of donors like you, CHANGE STEP™, a DAP program for military veterans, will be offered by WestCare in St. Petersburg, Florida. In addition to serving military veterans in the St. Petersburg area, WestCare will share its results with DAP, providing additional information to enhance this innovative program. DAP is developing its plan to offer providers around the country the opportunity to become certified to provide CHANGE STEP™ in their communities.
And, because of you, barriers to women and children coming to DAP will be eliminated: women can attend a therapy group because childcare is provided and mothers and children coming to kids group at 6:00 p.m. can relax, have supper and an activity together before they go to their separate groups.
On this Valentine's Day, as you celebrate your loving family, know that you are making it possible for hundreds of other families to feel that same kind of safety and support. Happy Valentine's Day!

WHEN SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS BEING ABUSED
Although it may be tempting to advise a victim to leave a relationship, that type of advice often backfires and the victim may no longer seek help. Instead here are some more effective options.

TEEN DATING VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH
Any teen or young adult can experience violence, abuse or unhealthy behaviors in their dating relationships. A relationship may be serious or casual, monogamous or not, short-term or long-term. Dating abuse does not discriminate - it does not see gender, sexual identity, economic status, ethnicity or religious preference.
Teendvmonth.org is an excellent resource for learning about teen dating violence statistics and resources for talking with your teens about the issue.

2013 MN FEMICIDE REPORT
On Tuesday, January 28, the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women (MCBW) released the 2013 edition of the Femicide Report. The 25th release of the Femicide Report memorializes the 37 Minnesotans known to be killed due to domestic violence in 2013.
Since 1989, the Femicide Report has provided annual documentation on intimate partner homicides across the state of Minnesota. It includes an overview of the 37 known homicides due to domestic violence, descriptive analysis of the characteristics related to lethal domestic violence, and recommendations for community response, making the Femicide Report the only document of its kind in Minnesota.
